Hi,

use PFE 2.14 since a few days - and i see that the wind detection is a total catastroph.

as example: yesterdays flight from torino to munich, wind direction all over west.

ATIS at LIMF announce me RW 18 in use - all the AI traffic is starting from RW36.
( checking shift+z by running FSX - wind direction is 238 )

after then - airborne - Extended ACARS ATIS Report Displays for EDDM RW 08L in use - wind from 263!!??
( during the whole flight the wind never changers to east - i can see this by ASX running on network PC )

passing the last waypoint - ATC gives me clearance to 26L - on ILS-approach a few miles from touchdown ATC told me to land 26R !!??

how can i make a reasonable flightplanning with such a program?

regards
Walter

P.S.: i´m using PFE via WideFS on a 2nd pc - and i had never such problems with the FSX-ATC...

The problem usually occurs when there is a cross wind component. The sim will always choose the "active" runway unless the tail wind component is at least 8knts. Almost every time when there is a cross wind the sim atc gets confused and sends everybody off in different directions.
Anyway rwy 18 at LIMF is a visual approach so that's a good chance to get some "pilot stuff" practise in isn't it?

I don't have an answer as to how PFE and ATC do their thing with wind...

But here is what I do...I am using Win XP and FS9.. I make my flight with my intended destination runway in mind so as to get the minimum vectors...
Then while in route I go to FS9/weather and set the wind direction needed for my intended runway...It never fails...
I do not use "real weather" or ActiveSky etc...

I know this is "cheating" but I always get perfect flights...

I often have to manually setup the wind direction/strength first even though I use a weather engine with real weather. It seems to be a question of who gets to the winning post first when the departure airport is selected. That is if the sim processes the wind direction according to its setup or whether the weather engine does it. PFE relying on FSUIPC just gets told of the outcome. Quite often it reads the weather engine actuals which have been overridden by the sim doing it own thing! Sometimes PFE gives me the sim settings when the METAR is clearly different. Perhaps another way of adjusting the sim is to allow real world weather and then change it back to allow the weather engine to run it.
