I have activated the option which gets PF3 to 'beep' when it detects a hotkey input - a useful idea, I find. However, I would prefer it to sound a bit less 'Microsoft Windowsy' (it seems to be the 'Windows Ding.wav'?): there are plenty of candidates, radio interference noises etc. which aren't normally heard in PF3, that would serve the same purpose but blend in a bit better with the ambience, IMHO.

I can't find any 'ding' or 'beep' wav files in PF3 however, so I assume that PF3 simply uses the file in the Windows folder (it'd be easy to test of course, but I haven't done so as I write this)? If it's not that file, where does the 'beep' come from? I'd like to change it, whatever...

Not a 'biggie' in any sense of course, but wouldn't most folks prefer something that tones in better with the sim than a familiar ("annoying", according to the PF3 pdf!) Microsoft sound?

Thanks! :)

It uses the Windows default 'beep' which I believe is ding.wav in Win 7 and Background.wav in Win 8/10

I don't know if my memory is getting worse as I get older...
...I just can't remember how it used to be!

Yes, I'd just verified that by replacing it with a different file and came back to add the info - as usual, you are very 'on the ball' and got in before I could even test it!

Don't know if you might consider changing the sound to something more 'radio-like' at some stage, but meanwhile I have set up a little batch file that replaces the Windows file with a different one when PF3 starts and puts the original back when PF3 closes...

Thanks for the reply Dave,

martin
