Post subject:  Engine Start-up calls.. help needed please
I am not sure I am doing this properly. Could someone kindly help with a step-by-step? What I do is this:

1. Open a profile. I always load FDC via a profile and use many different ones, so as to start FDC with the minimum of clicking in the options windows (profiles differ according to aircraft/geographical area/cockpit voices etc. etc.)
2. Go to 'Options' and choose 'Select Aircraft'
3. Make sure a/c is the correct one for the profile and put a cross in the 'Skip Engine Startup calls' box
4. Save Changes & confirm dialogue.

Now, do I choose 'Close', or do I select 'Save Profile'? If I save the updated profile, two things happen:

1. I get a new FDC_Controller.dat file for that individual .pro file. Should there really be one Controller.dat file for every separate .pro file in my FDC/Data folder, or just for each .uco file present?

2. FDC creates a HUGE .pro file, so big that FDC won't open it (it hangs) in place of the one that was there before: generally 3MBs instead of 4kbs. 99% of the file is entries under a new heading, [Parameters]:

[SERVICES] ]

[SERVICES] ]
STARTERS_INFO=1
[SERVICES] ]
STARTERS_CMND=4
[SERVICES] ]

[SERVICES] ]
...... etc. etc . etc.

That's a tiny, tiny fraction of what is created, (there are almost 17000 lines of that in the .pro file).

There are also almost 2000 duplicate lines like this:

DeptTimeMode=0
DeptTimeMode=0
DeptTimeMode=0
DeptTimeMode=0

I hope Dave M or Dave L can advise! This is really odd. Thanks.

You only need to save a profile if y've made changes i.e. Load,change, save. What happens if you do just that?

I did the following, as an experiment:

1. Opened Main Options and chose 'Load Profile'. Selected one and clicked on 'Load'.
2. Went to Misc Items/Ambience and made a small change there. Clicked on 'Save Changes' and confirmed.
3. In the same window, clicked on 'Save Profile', to the left.
4. Resaved by double-clicking same profile name. 'Save'and confirm

The pro file is now 3 MBs, as above. Something has gone awry here! Is my FDC installation corrupt?
