Hi. @ Dave Leesley.

As I said in my previous post on here, I use Avast!

PFE and accumulative updates to 2.14 always installed with no problem, and PFE always ran fine. It also did the auto update with no problems whatsoever. Avast did not interfere with PFE at all!

It was only the FsBuild 2.4.0.20 update problem that brought this to mind, so I thought it was worth mentioning! Avast actually deleted the FsBuild executable, as well as deleting the shortcut! That is why I mentioned that I had to put an exclusion in Avast, because every time I tried to run FsBuild, Avast intercepted it and deleted the executable file and the shortcut!

As it turns out, the PFE 2.15 update also seems to be getting picked up by some antivirus programs and stopping the auto update, and the manual update!

I do not know if other antivirus programs also prevent PFE from actually running once updated to 2.15, and also deletes the PFE executable, the same way Avast does with the FSBuild 2.4.0.20 update!

Hope this clarifies.

Rgds.

Thanks all for your suggestions.

My security is F-Secure, and there are no user settings to prevent it putting PFE exe 2.15 into quarantine as soon as I try and run it. Thinks it's a trojan of some kind. Odd, because PFE exe 2.14 is fine, as before.

Anyway, it's more of an additional nuisance than anything else. I can run 2.15 if I turn off F-Secure, which is probably ok since I still have Windows Firewall and Windows Defender running.

Security software is changing all the time, so it's not necessarily the changes made to PFE in 2.15, which were minimal. For instance, I run McAfee, which has now decided to remove the aplc32.exe from my PFE installation! The aplc32.exe program hasn't changed for about 5 or 6 years, so go figure.

There's nothing I can do code wise unfortunately as I have absolutely no idea as to what it is the virus checker is finding to report a false positive, and McAfee are unlikely to tell me are they, in case my intentions are to circumvent their latest algorithms.

Any decent virus checking software should give you the option to tag files and/or folders to indicate to the software that you are happy that said files are safe and to leave them alone.
