I am doing a westbound flight into EGLL. I want to be vectored to finals from the last waypoint in the STAR LAM3A. When i create my flightplan prior to compiling in PFE I include all the waypoints of the STAR including the last one LAM. I then compile, and in PFE I then make sure the altitudes at the STAR waypoints are adjusted to reflect the STAR altitudes. I DO NOT tick the box on SIDS/STARS page to enable STARS (cleared to finals). I DO NOT select a start of STAR in the waypoints page.

At the bottom you mention I DO NOT select a start of STAR? I've been selecting a start of star if am flying a STAR?
You seem to making a simple process VERY difficult !!!

The way you are working this how on earth do you expect PFE to know that you're flying a STAR? If PFE doesn't know you are then ATC will be giving you various instructions.

The SIMPLEST method to achieve what I believe you are aiming for is to do this....

Create your flight plan but DO NOT include your STAR as there's really no need. You will have to ensure that the last waypoint in your FP is BEFORE your intended STAR. Tick the box in the SID/STARS option and when you reach the final waypoint in your FP ATC will clear you for the STAR, at which point you can fly wherever you want, even if it's not a published STAR, PFE doesn't care and ATC will leave you alone until you are established.

Right i understand it all now jeeso you can do so much with this ATC addon its going to take a good few flights to get an adjust of it !

So basically for your last waypoint your not putting in the ILS intercept altitude but rather than an altitude for OC and also a STAR altitude restriction then?

Did you have a look at that FP i sent bud?

Hi david i do agree think its just all these ways you can run PFE but you mentioned the SIMPLEST method so i'll stick with that, so thats basically fly your STAR and fly the rest at pilots descrition yeh?

Don't think PFE likes asking for higher alt request when flying your SID i got rough turbulence at fl060 and asked to climb but at the end of my SID i heard no contact what so ever they forgot about me!

Can i send my log to someone to have a look at what happened?

You don't have to ask PFE to climb whilst flying your SID.... just do it.... they don't care!!! PFE doesn't know anything about published procedures whatsoever so do what you want to do. That's the whole idea of PFE's SIDs/STARs, you can fly whatever procedure you want.

Hi, i tried this method last night but can you not just select a START of STAR like you mentioned on 2. ?

I had a go at this approach in my sim. Adding the STAR waypoints makes little difference, you will still get vectored halfway between WCO an HON. Reason is that PFE likes the last waypoint in the plan to be about 20-30 nm from the airport. HON/EBONY/GROVE are too close. This is totally realistic ATC behaviour to vector you while you are in the process of flying a STAR, but is clearly not what you want.

If you want to fly a STAR this close to the airport do the following:

1. Use you original FSX plan to compile (the one where the last waypoint in the plan is WCO).

2.Do NOT select a start of STAR in the waypoints adjustment page.

3. In the SIDS/STARS page tick the STARS Active box.

What will happen now is that at WCO you will be told you are cleared to finals at your discretion, and that you must contact tower when established on finals. You can now fly your STAR and approach to RWY, and when you are established on the ILS you contact tower.

If you do that, you will get vectored at, or very shortly after WCO. If you want to fly the STAR, use my method.

Its a good little addon once you get the swing of things!

What i found is a good way to set your cruising alt to closely match your 737 ngx FMC calculated TOD is don't connect PFE till you have finished loaded your route into the FMC find where your TOD is by using the EFIS map mode on the 737 and lets say its close to SUBUK waypoint and your cruise alt is FL390 insert FL390 all the way to SUBUK :) i find this works great for me.
