Hi.

I don't want PFE to 'nag' me about my heading, as too often when I am established on my flight plan (i.e. flying directly towards my first waypoint), ATC keeps telling me to turn away from it (and doesn't give up till I do so: then, once I comply, I will get a warning to check my heading as I have been detected so many miles 'off course').

I have changed HdgTimer=60 to HdgTimer=0 in the ini file Tweaks section, but I am guessing. Is that the way to do this, or will that lead to unforeseen problems somehow?

Ideally I'd like one reminder about my heading, then no more, but I suppose that's not an option?

Thanks,

Martin

To avoid airway deviation messages from ATC you can increase the mileage ( I use 30), or set it to 0 for no warning, Options#1 page. I don't know if its possible for you to request just one warning, but I doubt it.

As far as ATC telling you to deviate from flying towards your first waypoint, you have asked this question before. The answer is simply you must follow ATC instructions until you hear them say "continue own navigation". Until they say that you must follow their instructions even if this means you think you are deviating from your flightplan. ATC will use its own method to get you from departure to your first waypoint which is not a straight line from the runway to waypooint 1.

Thanks for the reply.

I am OK with following ATC as to my heading, but it is slightly annoying that, after having done so, I am then told to check my position because they register me as so many miles from my flight plan! This doesn't happen every time, but I haven't worked out why it comes up on some occasions and not others.

Any idea what setting HdgTimer=0 does?? I am experimenting... can always change it back of course.

Perhaps Dave can confirm, but this may be because of the following:

ATC will give you vectors to get you to your first waypoint. I believe (?) the vectors will depend on departure procedures that are part of FS9/SFX original code.

During that vectoring you may well be some distance from the "route" when drawn as a straight line from departure airport to waypoint 1. This will be most noticeable when your "route" is a westerly one but you are taking off in an easterly direction. If you have the airway deviation setting too low it is inevitable you will register as being "off the airway".

Not sure if I am correct with the above but it would explain the situation.
