Hello:

I bought v1.0 back in 2007 and tried the program for awhile before giving up on it. Now I would like to try it again. Re-installing V1.0 that I have is no problem and it works ok. The problem is updating it to the current V2.14 with the accumulative update file. Whether I run the automatic install or the manual install (at the pfe_v312_system.exe stage), I get this error window 3/4 of the way through: GLJE0.tmp - unable to locate component. "This app has failed to start because iertutil.dll was not found." The update finishes nevertheless and the program starts up as v2.14 but doesn't really run properly. Worst of all my Windows system is messed up. For example, any attempt to open Acrobat Reader files results in this same error box appearing, even though Acrobat Reader doesn't even use this file (it doesn't exist on my system and Acrobat Reader normally runs just fine). The only way to resolve the problem is to restore my Windows partition from a backup made before running the pfe_accumulative_update.

I have been through this cycle several times and am forced to give up. My antivirus is disabled (it flags a trojan warning otherwise). I am running Windows XP, SP3.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

David

Do you have any other security type programs running during the instal? If so you need to stop them all. Other than that I don't know why you're having such issues... Seems like you're system is a bit messed up.

I can't answer the question as far as OnCourse Software products are concerned but I can say a little about iertutil.dll if it helps.

It is a component of later versions of Internet Explorer. If you still have IE version 6 active on your machine you will get this error with badly programmed software* that is dependent upon it. Acrobat Reader is one that thinks it is, although it seems (if you ignore the error windows) that it will do all that is needed.

I do not think it is an indication that your system is "messed up" because I have experienced this with a completely clean and new install. You may be able to resolve it by installing a later version of IE although I would warn that on some systems I have found this introduces other issues and you may need to uninstall and put up with the error boxes.

If you do need to uninstall a later version of IE, do it through the add/remove programmes section (earlier versions are retained when you upgrade) - I do not recommend using System Restore for that (or any other) purpose.

John

* - I mean badly programmed as in not compatible with all systems.
