I am just starting to learn and use STAR in PF3, and the tutorial videos as well as the manual still leave me a bit confused. My apologies if I appear thick in this matter.
I filed a flight plan from LIML to LIMJ with a STAR. In Pf3, I checked the STAR and used an altitude of 5000 as the STAR start point. This is about 16 miles from the SESTRI VOR, for which I had entered a transition altitude of 7000 in the SID/STAR option window. This is an important altitude due to mountains up to this checkpoint. PF3 worked beautifully, except that it asked me to descend to 5000 feet some 12 miles before SESTRI VOR. I am not sure what I did wrong.
Also, my taxi guidance failed. It appears to work intermittantly, and I suspect that it has to do with TG not properly exiting after closing PF3.
thanks

The transition altitude is the point above which altitudes are referenced as flight levels, it has nothing to do with minimum altitudes for obstacle avoidance. Also, your last waypoint, at 15 miles, a little too close to the airport and I would suggest 20-25 at a minimum
