I eventually sorted it out. Google is your friend! In my case, I had to install the Microsoft Windows Desktop Runtime - 3.1.28 (x86), not the dot net-runtime-3.1.28-win-x86.exe.
Many thanks Mark; although both use .Net Core 3.1 the new updater is a desktop application, whereas Web Display is a console application, hence the reason for the different runtime library. I spotted the runtime requirement when testing Web Display on a different system, but didn't myself see the message for the new updater as my test system must already have the required library installed.

Thanks again for the correction,
Martin

Hi Martin
I have the same problem with Windows 10. I have looked at the entries and carried out the .Net install with both dotnet runtime installer and the windows desktop installer, but I still get the same message about having to install .Net Core. I have run the x64 versions as it is windows 10 I am using. Have you any thoughts on how to fix this for my version of windows?
Regards
Andrew

When you ran the installers did you right-click on them and select 'Run as Administrator'?

Hi Dave
The first time I didn’t run the installs as admin, however,I deleted the software and I have run them again as admin and done a reboot, but I am still getting the same message.
Cheers
Andrew

Okay, for now, just de-select the 'check for updates' under Options #1. If we release another update before this particular issue is fixed you will just have to download the cumulative updates package from this forum to remain up to date.

Hi Andrew,
You need to install the x86 version of the Windows Desktop runtime, not the x64 version - the version to use is determined by the application build.
This link will give you the correct version: https://download.visualstudio.microsoft ... in-x86.exe
Hope this helps,
Martin
