I haven't been able to use the PF3 auto-updater for a long time now, so I always manually install updates from the 'maintenance release' files you provide. I did this yesterday and PF3 shows v.3.17.

However, whenever PF3 now checks for an update, I get a message box (screenshot). Is this a new requirement? I already had all the necessary Microsoft (etc) files installed for PF3 to run and check updates properly: when I clicked on the same Update button yesterday, before running the manually downloaded updater file, no such message appeared - I was just informed that there was an update available.

Is this an error in PF3, or do is there a new requirement from PF3 3.17 onwards and I need to download more .NET files (windowsdesktop-runtime-3.1.28-win-x64.exe?)? I don't want to be adding runtimes unnecessarily, if this is an error within PF3.

Thanks

Getting the same thing for two days now, and I have installed 3.17 three times.

It would appear some systems are missing some core .Net runtimes...

This from the developer (Martin), taken from an earlier post:
Quote:
My apologies, I built the new PF3 update routine in the same way as Web Display, so it too requires the .Net 3.1 runtime library.
Unfortunately it does seem to be missing from a fair number of systems.

The correct version of the runtime can be downloaded from the Microsoft website using the following link:

https://download.visualstudio.microsoft ... n-x86.exe

Run the downloaded file (windowsdesktop-runtime-3.1.28-win-x86.exe) to install the runtime library; this should resolve any issues.

Another user (Mark, mwa05) has pointed out that I have mistakenly given the link for the wrong runtime library; the new updater requires Windows Desktop Runtime for x86 (windowsdesktop-runtime-3.1.28-win-x86.exe); it can be obtained here:
https://download.visualstudio.microsoft ... n-x86.exe

My apologies, I wasn't aware of this until users started to hit problems as my test system didn't flag the requirement, it must have already been installed.

Martin

Yes, installing from the file windowsdesktop-runtime-3.1.28-win-x86.exe fixes the problem. Thanks.
