I have the W key assigned in hot keys, but when i press it it just says something like 'permission to skip to next TGS point' I can't switch off the TGS once it is activated. Haven't tried changing the landing runway yet. Today, planes lining up for 18L at Charlotte Douglas, but ATC sent me to a non nonsensical runway for take off which would have me taking off with a tail wind.

Once TGS is active, it needs to be turned off before you can request a different runway for departure. You can toggle TGS off by using hotkey 1. After you see the "TGS Deactivated" message you should be able to request a different runway. The key combination used to request a runway change has a different function (skip to the next taxi waypoint) when TGS is active.

Regarding the initial runway assignment, can't tell exactly what happened without the logs, but PF3 will ordinarily use the same runway that is being used by the AI aircraft.
