Hi Dave and all,
I was approaching New York's JFK when the other half announced my tea was ready and can't upset the missus when she's slogged over a hot stove..
So I decided to declare an emergency...told which airport was available and so be it given JFK, got vectors immediately to land and was told I was number 2 for landing, this given to me just as i was on approach to the runway, my understanding is if you declare an emergency you should be given utmost priority for landing...correct me if i'm wrong.
Logs attached...as soon as I landed I switched off FSX and PF3 so ignore any error message at end of log..

This is a difficult call for an ATC simulation. In reality yes you would be given priority. Except that if the no.1 aeroplane was significantly ahead of you and about to land he could be given permission. There's no hard and fast rule. Certainly everybody behind you will be either diverted or put into a holding pattern. Also it depends on the type of emergency. If it is a flight critical emergency then the controllers would probably clear everything out of the way and give you a suitable runway. A medical emergency would be cleared for a straight in approach. In this case having to land before your supper is given to the dog. Hmm I don't know how Dave would programme that. It would certainly make PF3 unique!!!

John, didn't want to abandon flight as I was using laptop for some testing...so hence the Mayday call ;)

Having used our competitors product once you declared an emergency, you was told to descend to 2000ft and was told everything would be cleared out of your way, hopefully Dave M could work on this... :)

I've just had a thought. Why couldn't you have pressed 'P' and got back to it later?

Don't like pausing flights for any great length of time as it's more likely to overheat processor or do other damage to laptop...

Dave.. if you put the sim into windowed mode and then minimise it to the taskbar, CPU usage (and core temps) go right down. If I want to pause FS, I always do that and always come back later to a cool PC. If I don't minimise FS, the difference (according to CPU usage meter and CoreTemp, as well as to the touch) is very noticeable!

I think minimising changes the resources the application uses (or more accurately, is allocated by Windows) - which is no doubt why Dave M suggests not minimising PF3 to the taskbar after connection. (My FDC minimises to the taskbar automatically immediately after conncetion, BTW. Is that by design?).
