The issue is that ATC either is aware of what aircraft I am flying or it is not. If I am flying an aircraft that is perfectly capable of safely landing on a 1500 foot runway ( according to my preset), then a realistic ATC runway assignment priority should be the runway that is favoring the wind if all the airport runways are many thousands of feet more than I need to land safely. It shouldn't be assigning me a runway with a 90 degree crosswind which almost exceeds the crosswind capability of my aircraft, because that runway is longer than the runway that is almost aligned with the prevailing wind direction, just because the crosswind runway is a couple of thousand feet longer. The error in all this, obviously, is that ATC is ignoring the landing runway length requirements of the aircraft I am flying.
