Has anyone out there got any tips on how to memorize what the hotkeys actually do please?

Every time I need to use one during flight, I have to look it up on my printed sheets - 4 pages of them printed back to back - and it takes an age. Sometimes, long after I've passed the position I've needed it for!

Ok - I know I can pause the flight while I look it up but that rather takes away the sponteneity of the thing.

Also, what is the quickest way anyone has found for me to change a flight from VFR to IFR or the reverse? There seems to be no hotkey for it.

I have no idea what your system setup is but have you checked out the PF3 Display utility for displaying hotkeys and their usage, which changes dependant on which frequency you are tunes to?

As for switching your flightplan, tune to FSS then hit hotkey #6

I don't know if my memory is getting worse as I get older...

Thanks Dave.

I know there's no other way and on the whole they work very well but I'm beginning to hate those multi-functional hot keys. Mainly because I'm never quite certain that I'm at a stage in the flight that I can use the one I want, if you see what I mean.

I suppose I'll get used to them in the end and get to remember those I use most frequently.

John,

You can print a hard copy of the hotkey functions. See the following:

EDIT: Oops, I see you already have printed sheets.

John,
you could use a speech recognition software like Voice Activated Commands to assign spoken phrases of your choice to every hotkey of PF3. Takes some time to set it up but you can forget about the hotkey list afterwards. And it is much more realistic to use your voice to talk to ATC than by pressing a hotkey.

It's fun.

Ralf
