Hi Dave, ruminate on this one while you recover.
Forgot to change server from "Dave-Office pc" to my PC after reinstall.
Also found that in the PF3 ini file there is an entry for "Hotkey Beep" set to 1, beneath that there is an entry " Use Hotkeys" this was sent to 0. RED FLAG! I changed it to 1 and now all is good, Displayer works. Confusing for me anyways. since there is no check box in either option to use or not use hotkeys. Wondering how this could happen?

Also still have no frequency appearing in "next waypoint item"

The UsePF3Hotkeys has nothing to do with PF3 Display... it must have been the Server entry that was incorrect.

Yes, I wasn't clear enough. The change of server produced the green lights on the displayer. But (in a separate box) i wasn't getting the list of hotkeys available for my com frequency. changing the PF3 to "Use hotkeys" fixed that.
