Post subject:  Help needed getting things up and running

Old user back after a few years away. Now got MSFS2020(Steam Edition).

I've downloaded the full installer (V3.16) and all installed ok. Ran Check for Updates and updates installed, although it still says V3.16 on the opening screen.

Noticed on the forum there is a V3.21 Maintenance release but the link does not work for me. Where can I get this update?

Finally, I need to know where to find the flight plans folder for the Steam Edition?

Thanks in advance.

Bill

Hi Bill, Latest versions are always found in the Announcements section. Version 3.21.0 is at:

Because the PF3 Opening Screen still says V3.16 after updating, I went to the Announcements section of the forum. Where it says "If you've been experiencing problems using PF3's Auto-Updates feature (which of course is the recommended way to obtain the latest updates for PF3) you can download the latest cumulative updates setup program from here. This link doesn't work for me.

If you try to load a flight plan MSFS will, by default for Steam, open the folder 'C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator'
On my system there is a 'Flight Plans' folder there which I use for the MSFS flight plans (I can't remember if this was created on install).
You can configure PF3 to also use this directory with 'Change Flight Plan Path' under 'Select a Flight Plan'.

Hope this helps,
Martin

Just to add from martin and flightplans,if you want to goto Navigraph and create a free account for Simbrief, this creates better plans than the default planner as i use it along with steam edition and no issues,

Thanks for all your help. I’ve managed to get everything set up and running. It’s slowly (very slowly) all coming back to me. I’ve had a couple of successful flights but my last two ended in CTD when on ILS. Message from pf3 said something like “pf3 fatal error” and the error reporting box appeared but was unresponsive. Any ideas where I might start my troubleshooting?
Thanks
Bill

Hi Bill, If it's a MSFS CTD that's why PF3 reported a fatal Error, as it could no longer see FS. If PF3 CTD's it wouldn't throw an error, so I think you need to look at MSFS. You might need to start by emptying your Community folder and introducing each item in there one at a time as process of elimination.

If ever you believe you have an PF3 error please see the read message at the top of this forum and include the debug log
