Post subject:  Not stepped up to cruise level

Dear reader,

I am sorry to bother you again. I was doing a flight from Amsterdam to Heathrow. I was cleared to an altitude of 9000 feet. Then I wasn’t stepped up to my cruise altitude of 24000 feet. I managed to get cleared to fl130. I don’t understand why I wasn’t stepped up to my cruise level.
The landing went pretty good, although i was quite high because i wasn't stepped down nicely.
I will include my debug log.
I hope you can explain what I am doing wrong.

Is it possible by the way to review your own logs? In plain english.

Cheers,

Rob.

I think this change, from 2017, caught you out
Quote:
CHANGED the altitude change request to now include a request to remain at your current altitude by using either the 'H' or 'L' key together with the ZERO key. Since this could be a request due to problems in attaining your last cleared altitude, ATC will always approve the request (there is a small percentage of being told 'unable at this time' for other requests). It is recommended you are levelled off when making this request.
As for the debug log readability, unfortunately not... I have it this way for a very good reason.

Hello Dave,

Thanks for the quick response. Could you please explain to me why I was left at fl90 for so long after departure?
I didn’t press H and 0 at that time.
I am just trying to understand what is happening.

Cheers,

Rob.

Hi Rob, I think you've just been very unlucky, but it's good for me as I discovered a problem in the step climb routine that could result in it returning an incorrect value and thereby stopping the next climb instruction unless you were EXACTLY at your assigned altitude.

I'm just uploading Beta version 3.21.10 which you should download. In fact please ensure if running with the beta version you only use the very latest. Your last flight was with 3.21.7 and the latest at that time was 3.21.9. If you have auto checks enabled PF3 will let you know when there's a new beta available as it does with the main releases. Always a good idea to hit the 'check for updates' before your flight as we really can't spend time debugging an older version. Just something to keep in mind. Thank you
