Have upgraded my PC this week and reinstalled PF3. Seems to be fine, but I can't get Remote Text to work now. It's enabled in the Options page and I have checked my PC IP address and (since I was not prompted by PF3), entered it into the RemoteText.ini file (below). Nothing...

Any ideas?

Thanks

When I was having trouble with remote text Dave passed this information on to me. These two file are what fixed it for me.

The only two ActiveX files required by the Remote Text program, apart from the main VB6 runtimes which should already be on you system as they're included with Windows, are ARESIZE.OCX and MSWINSCK.OCX.

Please check you have these files in your System32 folder or SysWow64 folder.

Hope this helps.

Hi Martin

Please delete the remotetext.ini file and restart it... let me know if the ini file is recreated and at that point you 'should' be prompted to enter the IP address or name of the PC running PF3

Deleted the ini file. When I run the Remotetext.exe file, a new one is created, but there's no prompt to enter the IP address.. the entry in the ini file goes back to 0.0.0.0. As I say, if I enter the IP address there, still no remote text window.

In practice, this is much less of a 'disaster' than it would have been a couple of months ago, as I fly pretty much exclusively in VR these days, so I don't see my monitor. Even so, be good to have it there, and to find out why it's not working.

Thanks

Did you used to run RemoteText on your second monitor by any chance?

Yes, I did, and I see that the remotetext.exe file is running in Task Manager. But resetting the window positions, as you described, didn't bring back remotetext, if it's actually open, and cascading all open windows doesn't show it either.

I don't now get the COM log window either, but maybe I haven't set something up properly (it used to open automatically when I connected to the sim).

Problem is, all this has happened automatically in PF3 for so long, I don't recall now how I got things working originally.

Okay, stop RemoteText in Task Manager if it's still running... here's how to reset the display position, if you're okay using RegEdit. Double clicking on the OnCourse Software icon is only for PF3 windows and not RemoteText.

To Edit the Registry, if this is something you are confident in doing. The settings will be found under:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\RemoteText\frmMain

Once you've navigated to the correct location you will see 2 entries, one named Default and the other LastSavedState. Simply delete the LastSavedState value... you will need to confirm the warning message.

That's it. Next time you start RemoteText it will appear in the centre of your main monitor, from where you can reposition it to your liking.
