Ah, hold on, I think John is using FSX so whatever is left on the kneeboard will show when the kneeboard is redisplayed, so maybe that's where the problem occurs. Maybe the kneeboard is being read before PF3 has updated it for the current flight following 'connection' to FS

Yes, I am on FSX.

What do I need to do to update it per what you say?

I am not seeing it or referring to it until it goes "Bong Bong" and self-displays after PFE connects. Happy to make further tests/checks if required.

John

I have the same problem with FSX, but in my case it's slightly easier to identify. This is what usually pops up when I initially connect to FSX:

If I select 'Messages' (or another option) and then back to 'Briefing' this is what is then displayed:

Just occasionally the briefing is shown correctly without needing to do this - I hadn't realised that this was a 'known' issue.

Cheers,
Martin

The problem I believe is if you've previously loaded the kneeboard it remains loaded although hidden. So when PF3 refreshes the NoBrief.htm file it is not automatically refreshed unless you toggle it to the next display and back again. If that makes sense.

Sorry, but I'm not sure that's the reason - my example was starting FSX from cold just now, with no kneeboard display until I connected PF3.
I think it's probably some sort of timing issue - as I said, it doesn't happen every time, it occasionally works fine.

Cheers,
Martin

I don't believe it's a timing issue Martin because PF3 doesn't call the kneeboard until after it's created the NoBrief.htm file. I believe FSX loads the kneeboard at startup and simply hides it. When you hit Shift+F10 you don't load the window you simply make it visible.

Here's a simple test...
  • Start FSX
    Start PF3
Load a flight plan into PF3.
    Connect to FS
    Kneeboard displays without frequencies.
    Choose another kneeboard option/tab
Now choose Mission Briefing and the frequencies appear
Disconnect PF3 and exit (this will zap the NoBrief file, which you can double check by viewing the NoBrief.htm file in your FSX\Uires folder
Close the kneeboard using the X in the top right corner
Hit Shift+F10 - the kneeboard appears with the frequencies
Repeat this as many times as you wish and the frequencies will continue to display correctly.
Now, with the frequencies displayed, choose another kneeboard option/tab
    Now choose Mission Briefing again
The page will now be blank.
You see if you close the kneeboard it only hides it so when you display it again the frequencies are still there, but if you toggle to another tab and then back to Mission Briefing it will reread the NoBrief file

Dave/Dan,

Sorry to not come back sooner, like Dave (mentioned in another thread) I have just been given a little freedom and there is so much to catch up with that Flight Simulator has had to take a back seat. I have just done some tests (not full flights) and what has been suggested is exactly what is happening. Switching Shift-F10 windows and back again brings up to correct info.

This was probably occurring in exactly the same way at towered airports, but I wouldn't have noticed as my co-pilot was doing all the tuning automatically.

With apologies to Dave in advance for throwing ideas at him, but if the system could be arranged to auto-tune to departure after pressing key 8 (leaving the area) this confusion would be avoided. No doubt there is a technical reason this isn't possible, but I have to ask . . .

Meanwhile, I now know how to work round the issue.

Best regards,

John

I've just captured the following which shows exactly what Dave was saying - why am I not surprised? :)
[ attachment ]
Capture 0527 2.PNG (10.1 KiB) Viewed 1326 times
The first couple of entries is PF3 resetting the nobrief.htm file (49 bytes) as I disconnect from FSX, ending the previous 'run' - I then exit both PF3 and FSX.
I restart FSX and it can be seen reading the file as I set-up the flight; I then restart PF3 and it recreates the file (838 bytes) when I connect to FSX.
Next FSX can be seen re-reading the file when I switch kneeboard tabs.
(The final couple of entries is PF3 resetting the file when I again disconnect from FSX)

Cheers,
Martin
