Hi, I normally fly VFR in my PA44 Seminole. Today I tried a short IFR flight from YSGT to YWLM with one waypoint. The flight plan showed heading of 096. When I arrived at the waypoint I was contacted by Approach and I was vectored to a heading of 170 which is away from the airport and I stayed on this heading for nearly a further 20 miles. After this I was given some small headings toward the airport. I then got fed up and cancelled the flight.

I don't know if this is normal procedure for small GA aircraft in IFR conditions. Is there a way to be able to be vectored towards the airport without such huge vectors and distances?

Log file attached. Thanks in advance.

Sorry, that's not the correct log. This log is for a VFR flight and you didn't receive any vectoring from ATC.

If you've completed a flight since the issue you need to provide the OLD_Debug_Monitor.log file. If you've completed more than one additional flight since the issue then unfortunately the log will have been overwritten.

Here's the complete transcript between you and ATC from the log you provided.

Sorry Dave, I will do the same IFR flight tomorrow and post the log. It's getting late here in Aussie for this old bloke.

Hi Dave, I'll give it another go! Hopefully this one is OK. Attached. I flew the same flight plan. I was on a course of 109 to the destination and when I was contacted by approach, I was told to turn right to 170. I stayed on this for nearly 20 miles from the airport before getting further directions. Thanks again.

Yep, that's an IFR log thanks.

I don't see anything wrong at all but it's a shame you didn't complete the flight as I could have then shown you a diagram of the approach pattern.

What is it you're not happy with? You can reduce the FAF distance in Options #1/Advanced Options and Tweaks if you want a tighter approach but it's not really recommended but of course you're free to try whatever you wish.

The active runway was 30 so you would have to be vectored passed the airport and then vectored back round to the runway FAF.
