I'm really enjoying the program, but still trying to learn things.

Please let me know what I am doing wrong.

A couple flight out of uncontrolled airports, I get the clearance fine to 6,000 ft. I take off, established at 6,000, make contact with departure, but after a few minutes no clearance to my cruise altitude, which is my flight plan for the first waypoint at FL300.

Thanks in advance.

Here is the log file which didn't go through with my first message because I forgot to zip it. Sorry.

I haven't taken a look at your log but wanted to mention that you don't wait until 6000 ft to contact Departure. You should make contact with Departure when you are about 2000 to 3000 ft AGL which is when you are usually visible on radar (irrespective of your initial clearance altitude).

Thanks for the log.

The problem here was you never actually made initial contact with Departure and as Dan has already mentioned you should be doing this as soon as you can after departing. You make initial contact with all facilities by using Hotkey #0 when tuned to the correct frequency. You actually used Hotkey #9 to 'Report your position'

The other thing worth noting is your first waypoint was 147 miles from your departure and whilst this is okay and will work it is much better to have the first waypoint much closer... say around 30 miles. There are some features that are purposely turned off until you reach the first waypoint.
