Your user guide has an installation section for remote text and it does not say how to install it! All it says is:
RemoteText can be installed on any PC which is on the same Network as PF3.
It does not require WideFS/WideClient. When you first run the program it will
ask you to enter the name or the IP address of the PC where PF3 is installed.
To ensure RemoteText functions correctly you will also have to turn Closed
Captions ON in the main Options #1 page of PF3.
Also, you need to activate RemoteText in PF3. To do this please see section
7.1.25
That's it!
How am I supposed to install it on an other pc? I have tried by copying the file to the other computer, put in public folder on network as a link and the .exe file. Nothing has worked. It never asked for IP address either.

I'm assuming you're using PF3 and have therefore move this post to the correct forum.

There is no installer for RemoteText, you just copy the RemoteText.exe to wherever you wish to run it. If then it doesn't work try also copying the PF3_Display_Runtimes.exe from your main PF3 folder to the client pc you wish to run RemoteText on and right-slick and select 'Run as Administrator'... it only takes a few seconds to run... now try RemoteText again.

Please let us know how you get on

Hey Dave,

I have been trying to get remote text to work on my networked computer but I'm not having much success. Here's what I've done. I am able to get it to connect to my main PC (the one PF3 is running on). On the client PC, I have copied the remotetext.exe file to the desktop. I also copied the pf3_display_runtimes.exe to the same computer and ran it with admin privileges. In the remote text ini file I added the host IP address and used the default ports 1008 and 1009 with no success on either. The remote text box is checked and all computer on my network are seen and can be accessed. When clicking the remote text exe, nothing happens except the ini file is created. I am connected to the sim and with a valid flight plan and again I am able to see remote text on the machine running PF3, just not on the other computer. Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Tony,

Does RemoteText remain running on your client with the 'Waiting to connect'''' message?

Obviously you need to set you client to use the second port and that must be different to the one being used on your main pc

Dave,

Negative. As stated, on the main machine where PF3 is installed, I can get remote text to work. It connects, displays information etc. On any other computer, regardless of port being used, remote text does not even open up. When clicking the exe file, the only thing that happens is that the ini file was created. No waiting for connection, no indication of any kind.

Try installing the Microsoft VB6 SP6 Runtimes on your client.

Dave,

I attempted to install the above file from the provided link, however I received an error, (screenshot provided). I also attempted to run the files on the machine where remote text actually works and received the same message.

This screenshot is from the machine where remote text actually works, so any other suggestions? All computers are WIN 10, with the latest build.

Just browsing the forum today and then remember I'd forgotten to follow up on this one!

So sorry!

Anyway, the only two ActiveX files required by the RemoteText program, apart from the main VB6 runtimes which should already be on you system as they're included with Windows, are ARESIZE.OCX and MSWINSCK.OCK.

Please check you have these files in your System32 folder or SysWow64 folder
