There's no way to do it as it is but I could provide something going forward. I guess you would only have to play a short burst of something... maybe even a second or two?

Yes, at the moment it looks like that would be sufficient - thanks!

Just wanted to let you know PF3 now pops up automatically in the Advanced Sound Settings on startup. I don't actually play a sound, just play a one second silent wav file. It will be in the next release. Perhaps once you have your script working you would be kind enough to post full details on this forum for other users.

Sounds good, thanks. Is this update available for everyone? Haven't been flying a lot lately...

It will be once release, but that won't be another few weeks yet. If you're not flying much it wouldn't be worth me offering you a place on the beta team and then you could look into getting your script up and running. If you'd like to give it a go just drop me an email.

Hi Dave, I received the update today, which included the feature we were talking about - and what should I say, it seems to work! I enabled the part of my start-up script that switches the default sound output temporarily to my head-set, and I am at the moment listening to SFO's ATIS over said head-set! Very happy!

The list of other fixes, enhancements and new features reads very impressive, looking forward to using them!

Thanks!

This is how I did it:

ECHO PF3...
ECHO Switching to head-set...
D:
CD D:\Programs\
"C:\Program Files (x86)\NirCMD\nircmd" setdefaultsounddevice "Headset" 1
TIMEOUT 5
ECHO Starting PF3...
D:
CD D:\Programs\PF3\
START PF3.exe
TIMEOUT 5
ECHO Switching back to speakers...
D:
CD D:\Programs\
"C:\Program Files (x86)\NirCMD\nircmd" setdefaultsounddevice "Speakers" 1
TIMEOUT 5

This is the portion of the script that starts PF3. As you can see, I use the tool "nircmd" to set the default sound device, and then switch it back. You will have to adapt the paths and the names of the sound devices to your configuration.

Hello again,

this function doesn't seem to be working anymore, at least not as intended. The sound output from PF3 doesn't "stick" with the sound device that was active at start-up of PF3. It now stays with the default output device in windows, even when it is changed.

Hi, can anyone confirm this behavior? I'm on the latest PF3, with Win 21H2. It used to be the sound device PF3 used wouldn't change with the default device, now it does.

It would be really great if there was an option to choose the sound device PF3 uses as output...
