I noticed today that when PF3 sets the NAV1 automatically for an ILS landing, its sets the runway direction to true rather than taking into account magnetic variation, which was 5 degrees different at EGJJ (263 instead of 268 if I remember rightly). I adjusted it manually.

Landing is not my best point (you wouldn't want to travel with me at the helm!) but for once I intercepted the ILS perfectly (none of the sweeping across it and swinging back to capture it that often happens) and plopped my wheels down right on the centre line. My grandmother would have been proud of me.

This may have just been a coincidence (perhaps because I haven't consumed any alcohol today!) but would it be possible to make PF3 set the magnetic course rather than true? To my simple mind, it should just be a case of inserting a small calculation into the code, I hope this wouldn't require a major re-write.

John

Thanks for the reminder. Yes, you are correct. Martin C had already raised this with me and I should have fixed it already but it slipped my mind... which happens soooooooo frequently these days. Now, where was I, oh yeah, I've written it down now so provided I don't lose my notepad it'll be done. ;)

Thanks, Dave, I didn't realise it had already been identified.

I hope you do better than me, I can never read my handwriting. :)

UPDATE.

Well there's a worrying thing or two.

1. I hadn't forgotten to make the necessary changes... applied them in 3.21.135 infact!

2. It's not working for you :?

I can confirm I am on 135 but not the latest (yet). Perhaps I should try that?

Update - can confirm this is still the situation in v3.21.140, Dave.

Best regards,

What a/c are you using John? Just wondering if it's a/c related because it couldn't possibly be something I missed or didn't do correctly, as you well know of course

Default DC-3 (with MAAM-Sim panel) first time round, Rick Piper Vickers Viscount 700 (with Fraser McKay panel) the second time. Both in FS2004.

If you need a log, just shout.

Best regards,

John

Update . . .

Hold fire on this issue for now, I may have resolved it - will advise after next flight.

Me again . . .

Everything is working as it should now. I'm not 100% sure what I did but possibly an update of the airport database did the trick.

All good now anyway.
