Hi,

I am a longtime user of PFE but one thing still confuses me.

When I hear "Alaska 1134 hold West on the 310 radial inbound to Romeo Echo Yankee Echo Sierra Descend to 9 thousand on 2985 expect Clearance at 10'

.....should I hold immediately, or wait till i get to REYE and hold there?

..... also should I descend immediately to the altitude given ? or wait till I am told to resume my navigation?

Hi Peter,

you can descend immediately to 9000 as you received clearance to do so. Holding should commence at REYE, usually a hold is defined on a chart and this tells you whether it is a left or right turn hold. if none is defined usually left turns are preferred. 310 radial means that you should be tracking 130 deg. inbound to REYE on the VOR when in the holding pattern.

Thanks Norbert

The reason I asked about the descent is that often when asked to hold and descend, I find that after I am told to continue navigation I am given a descend instruction that assumes I am at my previous FL/altitude.
