Post subject: | CP Contact Landing |
Recently bought this software and have a question: On two out three landings at EBBR the CP has stayed quiet and not contacted tower or anyone after I have reached my designated STAR waypoint (ARVOL) and landed. I have the CP in handle all comms mode. It acknowledges the final vector and clearance for the STAR when I reach that waypoint. I then request "....pilots discretion..." landing option which is approved. Then nothing? Quiet. Even after landing and taxi off runway no comms. The STAR is quite long - ARVO3B - can take 10mins+ to complete - and it feels like the PFE is 'timing out"? I understand the CP should make contact 700m from ILS? Is there anything I should be paying attention to or making double sure I'm getting right? Many Thanks |

I just flew again and realised why but I'd like to know if this is normal please; just after I am given the go ahead for the 'pilot discretion approach...' to use my chosen STAR, ATC then suddenly changes my runway choice for that STAR to another, 25L to 20. 25L is the runway assigned to the STAR in the STAR/SID section of PFE. At first I didn't hear it so I was landing at 25L and of course nothing happened. This time I heard the instructions so qiuckly re-routed and landed - and all the CP voices worked - taxi to gate etc. So, does PFE change runway 'on the fly' even when using a dedicated one for your STAR approach - say for air traffic and/ or conditions etc? Thanks |

Yes, and in the real world your STAR could even be terminated early |

Hi, Thanks for the response. Just to be clear, the software is designed this way: Even though I have assigned a STAR to 25L in the STAR/SID section, the PFE porgram can and does sometimes change that according to some variable - say traffic or wind etc - can you generally expand on what the variables are? If I chose L (landing) for 25L and T (take off) for all other runways at that airport in the STAR/SID fields, that will keep 25L free for landing? I guess because there is a STAR/SID window where you can assign a runway I wasn't expecting (and it isn't it the manual) that the program would change that - I assumed it was fix, hence the point of providing those fields. Thanks again |

1. Yes 2. Yes 3. It simply can't be 'fixed'. What would happen if the weather changed drastically? |

It was the fact that there was an interface to assign a STAR to a runway; it was reasonable to think the program would then default to that runway when using that STAR (Seemed very sensible given that some STARs are specific to certain runways etc). Further, the runway change occurred after the STAR clearance was given and I didn't think the program ATC made any changes during the SID/STAR route - according to the manual? I'm going to reinstall because I have also noticed chunks of altitude intructions are not being 'read out', I just hear the CP wav files confirm the changes. Lastly, I do not see PFE listed in the module drop down menu in FSX, just the FSUIPC module - should there be a PFE one? Thanks |

I'm not hearing many altitude calls from ATC, just the CP confirmation and I noticed many of these in the logs: 02/01/2012 19:02:43: 950 - Transcript: 'Lufthansa 003 Climb to Flight Level 370' 02/01/2012 19:02:43: 950 - Error in NET SaySentence: Error in the application. 02/01/2012 19:02:43: 950 - Loop kicked: 4 I have redownloaded twice, installed 3 times, no UAC, anti-virus? Thanks |
