Post subject:  ATC.DLL causing crash

Hi

I was into a long haul flight KSFO-EDDF when I got the dreaded "FS9 has experienced a problem and needs to close" message. This has happened to me about 4 times now although the majority of my flights with PFE work perfectly. Hopefully you can shed some light on avoiding this. The common problem every time is atc.dll Here is what my computer event viewer says:

Faulting application name: fs9.exe, version: 9.1.0.40901, time stamp: 0x4135a208
Faulting module name: ATC.DLL, version: 9.1.0.40901, time stamp: 0x4135a88e
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x0001a699
Faulting process id: 0x13f4
Faulting application start time: 0x01cbcd519261a803
Faulting application path: D:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\fs9.exe
Faulting module path: D:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\MODULES\ATC.DLL

I am running Windows7 64 bit. FS9.1 Active Sky PFE. I was using the Level-D 767-300ER (although previous crashes related to atc.dll have occured with different a/c). I have the FS9 IFR flight plan loaded and the default ATC volume turned to zero. Co-pilot controlling radios.

The crash occured just after I was asked to contact Minneapolis centre.

I note this old post on the FSUIPC forums http://forum.simflight.com/topic/58511-atcdll-crash/

Let me know if you wish to see the debug monitor log.

Thanks.

Peter

I forgot to add I am running PFE 2.14

ps. I notice from my debug file that the crash occured just after my co-pilot was asked to contact Minneapolis centre on 118.85...... the same frequency as KSFO ATIS !! Maybe just a coincidence ...or ??

If you've followed the recommendations by Pete Dowson regarding atc.dll I have no idea what else too suggest, sorry.

Dave

Can I edit the centre frequency that is causing the problem ?

Peter,
just picking up on your ATC.dll crash, have you still got ATC checked in volume settings...if not check it,that should hopefully stop it because samething was happening to me..

Thanks John.

From reading the post I linked to in my original post , I think Pete Dowson is saying that to avoid crashes you need to have FS9 default ATC enabled (volume 0 if using PFE). The line in the FSUIP ini file is just so you dont get the pop-up window appearing.

I think my problem may have been related to the fact that when I tuned ATIS at KSFO using 118.85 , I think I used the default ATC command from the pop-up window, instead of dialing it on the radio by hand. Then when I get told to contact Minneapolis Centre on 118.85 I got the crash. This may just be a coincidence of course.

I have done the same flight again. This time I tuned ATIS at KSFO by hand using the frequency from the PFE display utility. It was a different frequency this time 135.45 (KSFO has two). I then completed the flight without incident ! I checked the log file and there was no other comm frequency of 135.45 along the route.

I will monitor this one in future, especially if there is a comm freq on route that is the same as ATIS at departure airport and post back if it happens again.

I acknowledge that this problem is caused by microsofts file atc.dll , and not a fault with PFE.
