Hello, Some time ago I had PFE running successfully on my laptop with Windows Vista SP1. When Windows Updater tried to update my machine to SP2 it wouldn't reboot no matter what I, or my computer technician tried. I decided it would be a good time to try Win 7; however, my machine was never stable with this operating system, and it almost always crashed with FS9 running. So, I retracked my hard drive, reinstalled Vista and succesfully upgraded it to SP2. I then reinstalled FS9, and it runs fine. However, when I tried to reinstall PFE I got the above error message. Since I had not had that problem previously, I suspected a corrupt install file, so I downloaded it again from Flight 1. But still I got the same error message. I went ahead and let PFE finish installing anyway, and it seemed to work, except for a few problems. When it did the initial system check on startup it locked up, so I forced a shut-down, restarted it, and it seemed fine. I then proceeded to set all the parameters the way I like them, ran the database updater, and filed a flight plan and flew it. The only problem I seemed to be having was non-existant or rediculous altitude calls, e.g., "Delta 4416, climb and maintain ____ ft.," where the actual altitude was not given. At the end of the flight I was told to descend to 1000 ft when was about 5 miles from the runway. My next move was to use the proceedures you suggest when a corrupted install is suspected. I ran the pfe_v26_system.exe file and then looked for Xinstall3.exe, but it wasn't in the main PFE folder, so I could go no further. Apparently the above-mentioned error must have prevented it from getting installed. Any idea how to fix this? Thanks in advance, Tom Murphy |

Try downloading/installing the PFE cumulative update package |

Dave, thanks for the quick response. I did use the cumulative update package as well as install all the voice packs. Please refer to the last paragraph in my previous post. It just occured to me that if I could get ahold of the "Xinstall3.exe" file as an email attachment, I might be able to pursue the corrupted installation angle. What do you think? Thanks again, Tom |

I think you'd be better downloading the missing DLL file... don't know why a few users have reported this file as missing as I thought it was installed with the OS |

Hi, Dave, Thanks for the suggestion. Don't know why I didn't think of it as it seems pretty obvious. I downloaded and installed the dll file, uninstalled PFE and then reinstalled it. This time I didn't get the error code during PFE's installation. Unfortunately I'm still getting the same error while running PFE. I have installed and uninstalled about three times. As a test, after installing I start by creatine a quick flight plan between KSLE and KPDX, compile it and then start a flight. When I call Ground for clearance, I am given everything I need except the altitude I am to fly. It is a short flight, so there are no intermediate waypoints; However, while compiling I adjusted my top of climb and top of descent altitudes. I can't help thinking the installation is corrupted somehow, but since I am still missing the Xinstall3.exe file, I can't check that out. Best regards, Tom |

You must have at least one waypoint. |

Sorry, Dave, I misspoke. I actually do use a waypoint for this flight; it's the terminal VOR for KPDX. I'm just not in the habit of thinking of it as a waypoint, as the compiler removes it due to its close proximity to the destination. Just to be safe, though, I did add another airport along the route as an additional waypoint, recompiled, and started up PFE for another flight. Same result: no altitude given by the controller. Thanks, Tom |

Hi Tom, Please email me the debug_monitor.log file from the PFE\Logs folder for that flight |
