Post subject:  "Expect" runway always changes

Hello. I've had a few successful flights in MSFS with the program now. Starting to get the hang of it.

One thing that seems to keep happening is, while I'm on a STAR heading for an approach to the runway that Simbrief is planning for, I often get an "expect runway xx" call that is usually a direct reciprocal of the runway and approach that I am expecting. I've learned not to select the approach PF3 says to expect, because when I reach the end of the STAR, it usually clears me to the original runway that Simbrief and I both were expecting.

Is there a way to make this not the case? I suppose I could X out all the runways at the destination airport but the one I expect to eventually use. Is there a less severe way to accomplish this? I do still like the program to be able to change the runway if the winds change.

I am flying without any AI traffic. So that should not be an issue. Also, using Active Sky, not MSFS live weather.
Thanks!

When you reach your STAR entry point, PF3 tries to determine the wind direction at the airport to give an estimate of the active runway. The farther your STAR entry is from the airport, the less accurate the estimate will be. If you start your STAR farther than the weather update radius of Active Sky, it may not be accurate at all, because Active Sky is only populating weather xx miles from your aircraft.

A few things to try: 1) Set a STAR entry point closer to the airport, even if it is somewhere along a long STAR. 2) Increase the weather update radius in Active Sky. 3) While on the STAR, enter the ICAO code for the destination airport in Active Sky to get a look at the airport's METAR. This should give a good estimate of the winds for landing, unless there really is a change before you reach the end of the STAR.

Thanks for the reply. I can't see any Active Sky settings that control the radius of the weather depiction. What is the setting to which you are referring?

If there is no update radius setting, it may not be configurable. You can experiment with setting a STAR entry waypoint that is closer to the airport. Most runway changes are due to AI activity, which is not an issue in your case.
