Post subject:  PF3 with MCE

Hi,

Does anyone have any tips on getting PF3/MCE working together? I'm trying with PMDG737.

I have downloaded the MCE Demo and correctly (I think) configured it.
I have edited the MCE_PF3.ini file to read Active=1
I start MCE.
I load a FP in PF3 and Connect to MSFS.
I say "Contact Tower" and my VCP does indeed contact Tower. Tower responds with "Contact Delivery on 121.8".

After that, VCP does nothing. I ask him to tune Com1 to 121.8. He acknowledges. He dials in 121.8 but it always immediately reverts back to Tower on 120.3.

What am I doing wrong? Any help appreciated

Cheers
Bill

Sounds to me like you still have an MSFS Pilot Assist option set

Well something's changing your com and it's not PF3. I don't personally use MCE but hopefully, someone who does maybe along to help shortly

I rebooted the pc and restarted msfs,pf3 and mce.

This time, Com1 was tuned correctly to Delivery when I connected to PF3. I managed to ask VCP to get our clearance, which he did. :D

I suppose, since mce configures the VCP as Mode 0 (OFF), I specifically need to tell him to tune to Tower?

I think its all working fine now, but if anyone does have any tips, particularly on how to incorporate the mce checklists, I would be most grateful.

Cheers
Bill

Hi Dave
I’m still having trouble getting Pf3 and mce working well together and the guys at mce are troubleshooting this as we speak. One potential issue they have flagged up is the hot key CtrShift\ for acknowledging an instruction. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that some keyboards could have issues with this combo. Are you able to explain the issue or point me in the right direction.
Thanks
Bill

Sorry, I have no idea. Just change it to something that doesn't cause a problem

Hi Dave
I found the reference. It’s in Section 12.2.3 of the current User Guide. You mention that this key combination can be problematic with some keyboards. Are you able to explain what problem(s) might occur? I could then feed this back to MCE support as it does seem to be linked to the issues I’m having.
Limited testing has shown that changing the hotkey does help but not fully resolve the issue so we’re trying to get to the bottom of the problem.
Thanks
Bill

He Bill, the quickest and easiest way to fix this is just change the key combination to something else 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Cheers 😃

Perhaps if I can explain a bit better.

I have never had a problem with any of the default hotkey combinations.

But since I purchased MCE, I have not managed to get the initial IFR clearance to work properly when requested via the MCE copilot. The MCE support guys have traced it to (maybe) a potential issue with that particular key combination. Since it’s already mentioned in the Pf3 User Guide that it might cause issues, I’m trying to feed back to MCE what those issues are. That way they might just get to the bottom of my problem, which I’m sure I’m not the only one experiencing. In fact, MCE could replicate the issue when they used my Pf3.ini

So, any feedback would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Bill
