Post subject:  WEB Browser & VR?

Hi. Post really addressed to Martin, pointy56, but if anyone at all can advise of course :-)

Really interested to learn (after all this time) from your post yesterday Martin that the Web Browser feature can make the Remote Text window visible in VR - but I haven't been able to make that happen in practice yet. I have created an ini file according to the pdf tutorial.. it is as below. I have opened a web browser (Chrome) and run 'http://localhost:7339/'. This shows a window as in the screenshot.

Is that correct, in so far as it goes? I don't see any error messages anywhere.

What I also don't see is what I now have to do to bring the Remote Text window (which is open on my monitor) into the VR cockpit.. after which I can presumably then drag it to a suitable position?

Be grateful for further instructions. To be able to read the Remote Text window (and so react to choices of runway for instance) would be great! (I don't need any other interaction, via the Web Browser BTW. Do I even need to have a browser open at 'http://localhost:7339/' in that case, inn order to see the Remote Text window in VR?

Thanks!

Martin S.

Only just noticed that the Chrome web page has a line which says 'This is where Remote Text messages will be displayed. But I can, you say Martin, bring the Remote Text window itself into VR? (Once again though, how do I achieve that final (?) step?).

I don't actually use Web Display myself so I may well be talking out of my exhaust. Web Display does not allow you to bring the Remote Text window into VR. What it does is provide its own remote text and that is what you should be able to see in VR along with the other display features. However, I 'think' the in-game window only works with MSFS. As I say, I may be completely wrong so you really need to wait until Martin drops by to confirm one way or the other.

OK Dave, thanks. There is an app called MoveVR, which works in X-Plane to bring windows into VR. I tried it and it works fine with the PF2 COM log window, but the Remote Text window (where I see the choices Y or N for runway changes, for instance) doesn't appear as an option to import. Maybe 't other Martin may have some more information. ;)

I hadn't realised that you were enquiring about VR for X-Plane; unfortunately, as Dave pointed out, the In-Game Display feature only works with MSFS.

However, a quick look at the information for MoveVR suggests that you should be able to view a standard Chrome browser window within your VR environment, so Web Display should be available to you that way. It is not currently possible to configure Web Display to only show Remote Text messages, it was built as a web-based alternative to PF3 Displayer, so it may not suit your needs - but you can hide the default commands which means that Remote Text messages are shown immediately below the heading.

Apologies for the confusion,
Martin

OK, thanks for the information. For the relatively few times I need it, I don't think it is worth my loading a web browser page into the VR cockpit: had it been possible to have the Remote Text window alone.. (Still not sure why I can see the COM log window OK, using MoveVR, but not Remote Text?).

It could be that the Remote Text window does not display a title bar. Only guessing mind.

Ah yes, could well be Dave; makes sense.

In any case, I find that importing a window (COM log for example) via this MoveVR programme freezes up and other windows open, Avitab for example, and even the aircraft's EFB, so it's not very useful in practice in any event.

Er, (you knew this was coming!!).. could the Remote Text window be given a title bar? Maybe, perhaps, by any chance..? :?

Well it IS possible of course... I'll have to give that some thought as to how it should be implemented for XP users. You may need to give me a nudge in a few days as I'm currently quite busy doing some other work ;-)
