Post subject:  PF3 Crashes on connection to P3D

Hi,

I have just done a complete re-build on my PC's with Windows 11, running PF3 on a networked connection.

Installation was all OK and PF3 appears to connect to the networked PC which is running P3D 5.2 HF1, however shortly after connecting PF3 just shuts down without any warning.

On checking the Event Viewer logs it shows an Application Error with the following details:

Faulting application name: PF3.exe, version: 3.12.0.0, time stamp: 0x612a7116
Faulting module name: MMDevAPI.DLL, version: 10.0.22000.1, time stamp: 0xdc7ae290
Exception code: 0xc0000005

as well as a .NET Runtime error, with the following details:

Application: PF3.exe
Framework Version: v4.0.30319
Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception.
Exception Info: exception code c0000005, exception address 60674CE7

PF3 log files are attached

Any help would be appreciated.

Well there's nothing in the log to indicate a problem so the first thing I would suggest is download the Microsoft DirectX for Managed Code Runtimes, using the following link:-

http://www.ocs-support.co.uk/downloads/ ... ntimes.zip

Once downloaded you need to unzip the content into a temporary folder anywhere on your system, then run the downloaded EXE. You will be prompted for a location to copy the extracted files into, so just choose the same temp folder.

Once that's done go into the temp folder and right-click the 'DXSetup.exe' program and then select 'Run as Administrator'

This will NOT alter any of your currently installed DirectX files but merely installs any missing runtimes in parallel
Once the DirectX Runtimes are installed please try running PF3 again and connecting to FS and let me know what happens. You can also delete the downloaded runtimes and temp folder if you wish

Hi Dave,

I'm slightly at a loss as to how you managed to do that, as I had downloaded and run those files last week after searching through the forum and FAQ's.

I followed your instructions to the letter and so far it appears to have worked perfectly, I haven't tried a complete flight yet but it's connecting and remaining connected unlike before and the Windows Event Logs are remaining empty.

Many thanks.

Steve.

Update: Problem solved

Hi,

For me, PF3 also exits when I press "Connect". However, I do not get an entry in the event viewer.

I had previously tried the demo version, and that had so far no problems with it. I could connect to P3D V5 without any problems.

Unfortunately this does not work with the full version. Even if I want to change the skin, PF3 crashes now and then. Then I also get an entry in the event viewer (SkinCrafter2.dll).

With the DirectX Runtimer I had already tried, but has brought no change.

Thank you in advance.
Dirk

EDIT: Problem has already been solved. Apparently the online updater did not work properly. It had downloaded something, but it still said version 3.0 in PF3 (unfortunately, I can read the font on my 5K monitor only very difficult, because extremely small. Therefore, I did not notice this directly).

After I manually applied the update, at least the Connect works now. Rest I still have to test.
