I have been unable to connect PFE_Disp.exe on my client machine to FSX on my server machine. I have Vista 64 on the server machine and XP 32 on the client. I have my FSX dedicated D: Drive sharing with everybody and I have my Client machine sharing with my server machine. I can read or change any file on any machine from the other machine. I can start Wideclient 1st on my client machine and it will say it is waiting on a connection. I start FSX and it says it is connected. I can start FSX 1st and it will say it is waiting on client machines. As soon as I start wideclient it will say connected. Below is my wideclient config, wideclient.Log, and FSUIPC4.INI file. I have a folder on the client machine that has pfe_disp.dat, PFE_Display.exe, and pfe_display.ini. I have a short cut to PFE_Display.exe on the client desktop. I can start wideclient and PFE_display.exe on the client machine, then FSX and PFE on the server machine, or vice versa. Start wideclient, then FSX and PFE, then PFE_Display.exe on the client desktop. I cannot get the displayer to show up on the client machine. If I click on the PFE_display.exe on the server, it shows up on the server. What do I need to do? I am using REX via simconnect with no problem, but do not know how to make pfe displayer work with simconnect.

Did you MOVE PFE Display from one machine to another... including the INI file?

Try changing the following INI file settings

PFE_Display.ini
[Config]
Left=2370
Top=2430

to this

PFE_Display.ini
[Config]
Left=0
Top=0

I copy and pasted the pfe_displayer folder from the server computer to the client computer with the files pfe_disp.dat, pfe_Display.ini, and the PFE_Display.exe. Therefore the files pfe_disp.dat, pfe_Display.ini, and the PFE_Display.exe are both on the desktop of the client and the Aerosoft PFE on the server which works fine displaying on the server. I did change the

PFE_Display.ini
[Config]
Left=2370
Top=2430

to this

PFE_Display.ini
[Config]
Left=0
Top=0

With no result. I disabled the files PFE_Display.ini, PFE_Display.exe, pfe_disp.dat on the server. No result. I enabled the pfe_disp.dat on the server and disabled it on the client. When I clicked on PFE_Display.exe with the pfe_disp.dat disabled on the client it said that pfe_disp.dat had to be in the folder with PFE_Display.exe. No result. This is crazy. PFE is working great on the server, Fsuipc4 is working, but cannot call up PFE_Display.exe and display it on the client.

Any idea how can I use simconnect? I did this with REX to put their weather engine and WASys on my client machine, but their instruction were explicit and I could follow them. I cannot figure out how to modify what I did to work with PFE. I think it takes a something to the effect of on the client machine you need a simconnect.cfg text document with this in it.
[SimConnect]
Protocol=IPv4
Address=Name of the server
Port= a number between 1025-65535
MaxReceiveSize=8192
DisableNagle=1

Somewhere I think that the pfe_disp.dat, pfe_Display.ini, and the PFE_Display.exe needs to be incorporated into it.

Then on the server I create a text document simconnect.xml with:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252" ?>
<SimBase.Document Type="SimConnect" version="1,0">
<Descr>SimConnect</Descr>
<Filename>SimConnect.xml</Filename>
<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<SimConnect.Comm>
<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<Protocol>IPv4</Protocol>
<Scope>global</Scope>
<Address>192.168.249.116</Address> *** This is the IP address of your FSX machine ***
<Port>6600</Port> *** This port number must match the port specified earlier in your simconnect.cfg file ***
<MaxClients>10</MaxClients>
<MaxRecvSize>8192</MaxRecvSize>
<DisableNagle>True</DisableNagle>
</SimConnect.Comm>
</SimBase.Document>

How do I differentiate between the Rex and PFE simconnect file or does this one work for both? Use a different port for PFE?

I just want to fly and enjoy your work. I hope this makes some sense.

Thanks,

Lynn

On my server FSX machine without FSX or PFE running I click on the pfe_display.exe and the displayer comes up. When I start FSX and PFE the lights turn green and it tells me the available commands. On the client machine nothing happens. It does not display anything at any time. Should it?

Thanks,

Lynn

Lynn,

PFE Display doesn't use and cannot use Simconnect directly, so forget that. Provided you have Wideclient running it will work. The problem is most likely due to there not being some base runtime file on your client machine. Please download the following and run it on your client machine. If that doesn't work I would then suggest you download VB6 runtimes which you will find very easily using Google.

Here's my the basic PFE runtimes file
