Post subject:  Final approach & Landing Speed

The controller always instructs a final approach speed of 100. However, at this speed my jets will always land before the runway is reached.

120 is the ideal speed to land. I know I can ignore it but is there a way for that control to be adjusted please?

I've looked but I can't see anything in the two panels.

From the main PF3 screen: Options #2 > Advanced Options and INI File Tweaks > Approach box (at left). Hover (don't click) your mouse pointer over the question mark in the Approach box for a pop-up description of how to set Final App Speed.

Or..click on select a Flightplan button and create a landing profile for your aircraft,it will instruct your aircraft to slow to a set speed that you have selected.

In the aircraft preset box enter the final approach speed. However, remember that it is in fact the penultimate speed. It is not your over the fence Vat speed.

For Concorde enter 190IAS
For jets enter 160IAS keep this speed to 4DME
For jets landing at max auw enter 170IAS keep this speed to 6DME
for turbo props enter 150IAS

Yes. If I remember rightly the Airbus 360 landing speed is 160. However, I don't fly the big jets any more. I use the small personal jets and certainly the one's I fly have a final approach and landing speed of 120.

Thanks for the tips fellers.

Now I'm looking for that feller that keeps shouting 'traffic' at me so I can throttle him!

Your landing speed of 120 is Vat. Your final approach speed is 160.

I really only wanted guidance on the landing speed. For me that determines the approach speed.

Dan, the Final Approach speed in the Options #2 > Advanced Options and INI File Tweaks > Approach box (at left) will only allow you to enter 100 and no more.

Yours is the easiest option Dave. It means I can select different speeds for the different aircraft I fly.

Thanks for that. I must admit I never noticed that box before!

The reason that particular box only goes up to 100 is because the value in the box is ADDED to the flaps-up stall speed from the aircraft.cfg file. However, I think you are right, it's easier to set the final approach speed in the presets.
