Post subject:  Is Scandinavia situated in the USA?

Hi,

Since I've joined the Wideroe VA I'm flying a lot in Norway and Sweden. It surprises me that the ATIS gives the pressure in inches (ALT) instead of HPA (QNH) and that ATC assumes transition at 18,000 ft. This happens also in Finland.

I've seen other posts about ATC with American voices and that might be for the same reason.

In Options#1/TransAlt & Baro calls I've set 'Nordic' to 7,000 which it is (according to my Aivlasoft EFB in Norway) and I checked the box of 'In this region.... etc.'.

... and one more thing....

In my flight yesterday from ENTC to ENBR (logfiles in the attached zip) between WPT ANIMO and WPT NONVU which is a 142 Nm long one, somewhere in the middle ATC starts nagging that I'm 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 miles off the airway. My Majestic Q400 was on track and my EFB also. PF3 uses the same .pln as my EFB. Strange and a little annoying.

Dirk

For problems with control center boundaries (which include the information about ICAO vs. FAA), please attach the contents of the directory PF3/Flight/FPP after loading the flight plan in PF3.
(You don't need to connect to the flight sim for this)

Since I made some flights since then, I recreated the situation to be able to make the zip of the FPP directory today.
I did not fly the ENTC ENBR flight but situated the Q400 at ENTC, loaded the pln into PF3 and dialed the ATIS. Strangely PF3 came up with winds zero at zero, Altimeter zero which, to me, is prove enough.

Dave, can you take a look at this?

The .json file shows various problems in PF3/Data/CenterSectors.dat:
Stavanger Control,81,2,126,11,11,...
Stavanger Control,81,6,124.7,23,23,...
Trondheim Control,84,1,124.3,11,11,...
Trondheim Control,84,8,125.7,11,11,...
I think all these should be 19,19 for Nordic instead of 11,11 (German) or 23,23 (US Generic)
Control,18,22,126.45,23,23,...
This is the sector north of Trodheim Control, it should be 19,19, too.

Maybe some sectors in the vicinity have a similar problem?

Dirk, if you feel confident with a good text editor you could edit this file yourself until Dave releases an update.

Thanks Thomas.

I've updated a few but not all (of course).

@Dave, please check/update the whole Nordic region (Norway, Sweden, Finland and possibly Iceland as wel).

I'll wait for the update ;-)

Cheers

Dirk

There are no Nordic voice sets available, but the problem reported by the OP is ATC using FAA rules rather than CAA and this was due to the sector around AMIMO being set incorrectly. I have now made the changes, ready for the next release, along with the incorrect Stavanger control sector.

So is not only Argentina (and now Uruguay, as posted in viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2632&p=16448#p16448) but also Scandinavia with this issue?

Unfortunately there are lots of areas that are under FAA rules that shouldn't be. This is more a legacy issue from the days of PF2000. If you come across any anomalies like inches instead of QNH, incorrect flight levels etc or American controllers that shouldn't be there please zip your FPP folder which is in the Flight directory. Dave can then make amendments to those sectors and release the correction in a future update. This is an issue which can can only be dealt with as and when a flight plan "stumbles" across them.
