Hi all,

So, in an effort to add the ILS approach altitude to as many airports as I can for PF3, does anyone know where I can get accessible charts? By that I mean, can I get the charts in PDF form without any kind of graph or image, just the text information? For example, the elevation of a runway so that I can calculate the FAF altitude for PF3 on it's airport page.

I can't just load a flightplan and go with PF3, as if I follow PF3 instructions to the letter I can't get the glideslope by default. I wonder if this is something Its your plane does, but all that does is help me follow PF3 instructions as a blind simulator pilot.

This post, then, is mainly asking about accessible charts. Also, is it possible if an update can be released where the possible options for FAF altitude etc can be placed into combo boxes/drop downs? For a screen reader user, the scroll bars can be quite a pain to change, and I don't even know for sure if I'm changing the right scroll bar for FAF altitude.

Thanks!

From the charts point of view virtually all charts can be googled if you use: "ICAO charts." ICOA being the ICAO airport code. If you want to fly in Europe then register with Eurocontrol. Every European airport has to submit charts and updates to them so their charts are always bang up to date.
You second point is unclear. All you have to do in the SID STAR page is enter the ICAO code and move the arroes up or down.

It seems odd that you are having so much trouble catching the glide slope. In my case the FAF altitude settings are left at default and with an FAF distance of 9 nm I am almost always able to intercept the glide slope without any changes to the altitude settings.

I have increased my FAF distance to 9NM, too, and the problems I had before that have vanished completely.
I'd say the different FAF altitudes are only important for flying into airports that are located in a valley.

7nm works well with an FAF altitude of 3,000ft agl. In this example the faf is set to 4,000ft QNH only because it is in reality 3,000ft above ground level.

You should always enter the FAF altitude given in the charts as that is set at QNH. Take the FAF QNH deduct the airport elevation, divide the result by 3 then divide by 100, then subtract 3 from the result.

e.g. EGLL
FAF QNH 2,500
less arpt elev 80 -
= 2,420
(2420/3)/100 = 8.07
8.07-3 = 5.07 rounded to 5
Therefore for London Heathrow set FAF to 2,500 and FAF distance to 5.

e.g. LIMF
FAF QNH 4,000
less arpt elev 989 -
= 3,011
(3011/3)/100 = 10.04
10.00-3 = 7.04 rounded to 7
Therefore for Turin set FAF to 4,000 and FAF distance to 7.

e.g. LOWI (Innsbruck has a 4 deg slope)
FAF QNH 9,500
less arpt elev 1,900 -
= 7,600
(7600/4)/100 = 19.00
19.00-3 = 16
Therefore for Innsbruck set FAF to 9,500 and FAF distance to 16.

e.g. VQPR (n/a) !!

Hi,

Sorry if I made things unclear. When you say "move the arrows up and down", I can't see the arrows, I am totally blind. I use Its your Plane to help me with the sim due to this, and a screen reader, NVDA in this case, to read things like the PF3 dialogs. Unfortunately, the scroll bars, the arrows in this case, make it hard to change them with a screen reader and would be better served with drop-downs or some other equivalent.
HTH. I have set my FAFDist to 9 NM and I'll see what that does for me. I'll even post a video here to show how it goes, hopefully successful.

If you do not change FAF altitude for any airport, the default should be fine, but if you do want to change it, you can also do it in the PF3.ini file.
It contains the line "FAFAlt=3000", which means "runway elevation + 3000 feet" (rounded).
But you would have to remember to change it back if you need the default again.
