Post subject:  Frozen Screen

For the second time this week I've got a frozen screen. The only way I could get out of it was to re-start the computer. But of course, it ruined the flight I was on.

I've heard of them but never experienced it before myself. Can someone offer a suggestion of the cause, or, more importantly, a cure please?

Thanks.

John

Which new software or software/driver updates did you install before the first freeze?
Any new add-on scenery?
Are you flying in a region with add-on scenery where you did not fly before?

Hi Thomas

Thanks for your quick reply.

No new drivers or updates and no changes of settings.

I was flying from CYLK Kelowna British Columbia, Canada using Orbx Scenery to KSEA Tacoma Intl.,Seattle, Washington, USA using BlueSky scenery plus Nuvecta Landscapes.

Landscapes is fairly new of course but I've flown in Washington using it before with no problem.

Please try disabling Landscapes, just to see if it makes a difference.

I also encountered several Freezes / CTDs after having installed nuvecta landscapes. Uninstalled landscapes and no freeze / CTD any more.

The strange thing is, I've flown in Washington since KSEA to KALW and no freezes. I've also flown elsewhere where I've got Landscapes installed and not had freezes.

I've come to the conclusion that it was crossing the border from Canada & Orbx to America with Blue Sky and Landscapes. There may be an overlap on the border with Orbx scenery not being exactly right and the two sceneries fighting one another for supremacy?

No hardship there. I just won't fly across it in future. I'll either fly in Canada or the USA - mainly the USA I should think. 8-)

Try adding the following line to the [SCENERY] section of your fsx.CFG:
MissingLibraryAlert=1
I had crashes in the past in a certain location. Now when I fly there, I'll get a popup informing me about the problem, but when I click OK, FSX will continue working.

That's interesting. Never heard about that before. I assume this also works in P3D? Any downsides of this entry you know of?

I have no idea if it works in P3D.
Downside is the popup, which will break immersion. But much less than the crash :)

I would really prefer the popup over a crash :-)

I will give it a try.

Happy Easter!
