I've just landed ILS on runway 36L at KDFW Fort Worth, Dallas.

However, just before I got down, I found I had to turn off the ILS and shunt the 'plane about 20' or so to the right to touch down.

That was ok but I just wanted to ask as a matter of interest if you are using the geographically correct positioning as in photo scenery for runways or the P3D default positions which can often be wildly inaccurate?

Or, is this down to the inaccuraces of FSX/P3D?

If you don't use what fs provides (whichever one you prefer) you are asking for trouble.

Given the fact that you also had problems landing at KJAC, it sounds like it could be a scenery issue. If the ILS is not aligned with the runway, maybe the scenery has been adjusted for magnetic variation and the ILS has not, or vice versa. Check the forums for your add-on scenery and see if there are any reports of similar issues.

In this case I was using Mega Scenery Earth.

I should explain that I use photo scenery, or when not available, photo real scenery, because I like to fly, in the main, over places I have never seen and to get a feeling of what its like and also to and from the places I've read about in the books I read, or, even places that intrigue me from the news.

The Flight Simulator scenery from any of them is so unrealistic as to be laughable. Someone was developing three airports for China the other week, and the bloke I beta test for asked me to check them out. The airports were alright. I'm not sure how accurate they were to the real things but that wasn't what I was checking. Anyway, in flying over the surrounding areas, I realised that the P3D scenery was just as bad as it is in the rest of the world i.e. Nothing like reality and what was worse, no attempt, from what I could see, had been made to look remotely like the real place at all. To check I was right I called my wife in (who comes from China and travelled extensively there) and she said; 'It's rubbish. Chuck it.'

In fact, there had been no attempt to make the place look like China. It could have been any place in their versions of America, Europe, or anywhere really.

Hence my use of photo scenery and no yen to fly anywhere that hasn't got it.

Sorry I was off topic but I wanted to get that off my chest. To get back to it, I just want to say that with the scenery I use, the runways have always been adjusted to be where they really are and mostly that has worked out alright while using PF3, but this one was slightly off and I wondered why.

Thanks for the replies fellers. I now understand.

Mega Scenery Earth doesn't do anything for the runways, they (usually) sit on top of the photo layer.
Often there are updated AFCAD files for airports to correct such things as wrong ILS, so you might want to search for them.
PF3 does not change anything regarding ILS, it just uses what the sim has.
