It doesn't seem possible in FDC to choose which audio device the sounds are played through? By default, sounds seem to come via FSX's voice channel. Any suggestions on how to get FDC sound through a different audio card?

Well that's either been discussed on this forum or on our PFE support forum.

Have you searched either?

Yes, but it seems that to be able to select the sound card per application (and, most important, to be able to independently allocate sound cards to applications that run concurrently) has to be done from the application itself. FSX SP2 does have this, but it then becomes the default for everything. Windows allows sound card choice but everything then goes through that choice. So, perhaps you might think about adding an independent sound card chooser in an FDC update...

Well I'm sure I remember someone running with an addon that enabled them to switch.... I'll have a search around myself when I get a moment or two ;-)

Vista and Windows 7 allow you to do this fairly easily although you have to do it each time you load the applications concerned. Basically 'set as default' the sound device you want PFE and/or FDC to use then start those two applications, they will now only use that device for sound. If you want another app to use a different device you just need to change the default sound device again and then launch the app you want to use that sound device. Each app will continue to use the same device as long as that app stays running, if you close the app and restart it it will use whatever is the default sound device at the time it launches or sometimes the first time it actually produces a sound.

Andy

Thanks for the explanation - I'd done this by accident but I couldn't work out how to do it on purpose!
