Have a look at this for me please.

The flight this time was from KOKC Will Rogers, Oklahoma to KAMA Rick Husband, Amarillo.

The flight, once again was fine and we were advised to expect vectors to runway 31, but then, as we got near, for some reason, we were directed away from the airflield and left until we were more than 30 miles away. Asked for 'vectors' and got what has become the usual response; 'Unable at this time'.

Finally got fed up, and made my own way to the airport, got permission to land, forgot to put the wheels down, and landed on the belly. Got off and was instructed to 'Taxi to Terminal'

You know, I sometimes have to wonder if the controllers actually know where the airports are! But I suspect we are neglecting to do something we're not doing. However, I thought that with IFR, the idea is that the ATC and GTC will guide you the whole way from airport to airport?

You really do need the next release so ATC will NAG you when you don't do what you're told don't you!

Yes I do need the nags. However, I'm convinced that the controllers, as in this case actually say something different from what they actually mean!

Even if they actually said '190' that would have taken me further away from the GPS route displayed which would then have the effect of my not getting the GPS mileage information for each segment because the line would not change from white to red.

Thanks anyway Dave.

I'll try to behave. ;)

For goodness sake get that new release published!

I don't think you should be concerned with the GPS... that will be directing you straight to the airport whereas on approach you will be vectored to the FAF

As Dave said, you should not need to worry about the GPS, because ATC will vector you and you just have to comply.

But if you want to use a GPS path, I suggest you ask your GPS to display a proper transition/approach, either by using the built-in procedures menu (if your GNS/GTN has one) or by feeding this information from an external source into the GPS (I use Aivlasoft's EFB for that). Then you could use hotkey 1 (Request Cleared To Final At Pilot's Discretion) with Approach so they allow you using whatever approach you want.

Ok - thanks for that advice you two.

I would make a lousy pilot but I like looking at the scenery! :)
