Post subject:  No Co-Pilot or Comms for App & Landing

Hello

Please could you advise what Im doing wrong.

I am running FSX on Win 7. I have PF3 installed and mostly working fine. I enter the Ground frequency at LOWW and call up. Get a response, co-pilot takes over and handles frequencies & calls during departure. On route we get warnings of conflicting traffic just fine.

When we get to my destination Approach however..... nothing. Co-pilot says and does nothing (is he still there!? :o )
I dial in the Approach frequency myself for EKCH and press Ctl-Shft-1 for Initial check-in... nothing. In fact since Ctrl+Shift+Anything, which worked just fine at LOWW or any other starting point, achieves nothing at the destination, it seems PF3 has departed with my co-pilot!

Any advice please.

Thanks in anticipation

Andrew

Please zip the debug_monitor.log file (located in your PF3\Logs folder) and attach it to a subsequent post. It will help us see what happened during flight. (File must be zipped.)

We definately need to see your logs. Might I suggest that just pressing "1" instead of Ctl-Shft-1 might have been better! You do need to maintain a listening watch even though your PO is doing the comms. Becuse if you miss something you may expect something to happen when it won't. So I would suggest doing the exact flightplan again and if what you have described is repeated then post your report here with the zipped logs.

Hi thanks for getting back so quick.

I'm trying to locate the PF3\Logs folder.

Only thing I can find is c>ProgramFiles>MicrosoftGames>MicrosoftFlightSimulatorX>PF3_display

Can you point me in the right direction to find the folder so that I can send the last log please.

PS I have to use Ctl+Shift+1 because i have no 1 assigned to EZCA camera view and shift+1 and Ctl+1 to other addons long before i discovered your excellent product.

Maybe use function keys (unbind them from throttle etc. first) or the numbers on the numeric keyboard for either PF3 or EZCA.

Goto the PF3 directory and then the logs directory. X:\PF3\logs

Well I'm not exactly sure what's going on here but according to the log the last instruction you received whilst on the ground was to contact ground when ready to taxi... you didn't do that... nor did you contact tower for takeoff clearance... you just departed!!! I'm surprised you even got traffic advisories at all. Please try another flight and follow ATC instructions.

Hello Dave,

Thanks for your help.

On my last flight, we received initial clearence and "call when ready for taxi". After engine start i didnt know how to prompt my FO to call for taxi so i started rolling and indeed he called for Taxi immediately we started rolling. Can't recall what happened after that, other than we received no stepped climb instructions, but regular traffic updates on route, whenever AI traffic came into conflict. Nothing on arrival, even when i manually tuned to Approach and called up myself.

I'm probably a little confused here as to what the FO does when I'm set to CP Mode 3. The manual says:

"CP Mode 3 - With this option you can almost start to relax a little. Not only
will your VCP change COM frequencies when required and handle all the
verbal stuff with ATC but he will also ensure your auto-pilot is correctly setup
up too. So any changes in heading or altitude, instructed by ATC, your VCP
will dial them into the AP. This can be really useful if you're on a long haul
flight and want to pop off to get your tea!
All joking aside, CP Mode 3 can be really useful when you first start using PF3
because it gives you time to see exactly how things work with regard to the
interaction between you, ATC and your flight sim."

I may have taken that too literally and assumed that the FO is doing more than in reality he actually is.

It seemed that when in CP Mode 3, the FO was making all the early 'pre take-off calls' following each ATC instruction - "Call, Tower Frq xxx.x, Call Departure Frq xxx.x
Of course, i realise that a taxi request comes before starting to roll, but couldn't see how he/I initiated this and I was worried about taking matters into my own hands and breaking the programs flow somehow. When he called for Taxi (a little belatedly of course I was further confused). You can see I'm being a little dim here! I'm a PPL so understand and use ATC real world, but assumed too much of the software I think.
I guess with hindsight "With this option you can almost start to relax a little" doesn't exclude me from interceding the flow with certain calls myself.

Your guidance is much appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation

Andrew

Try Cp mode 2 it does keep you in the loop so to speak.
