Looks Good

Questions are:


1. Does PF3 use AIRAC data
2. Does PF3 use METAR Data to determine Rwys?
3. Does PF3 use the realworld SIDs and STARs name during ATC communication
4. Does PF3 use realworld Missed approaches
5. Does PF3 use approach holdings
6. Does PF3 deal with emergency during flight

1. Yes, assuming the flight plan you give PF3 has the latest airac data.
2. Yes. You can create your own weather or that from a weather engine. Both will affect the operational runway. Though in addition PF3 will check which way any AI are pointing and that can affect the rwy allocation.
3. Yes, you tell PF3 which SIDs and STARs you expect to use for departure and arrival. You are allowed up to 7 characters. eg. ROKIB6J a SID out of Venezia or BRENO1A a STAR into Innsbruck.
4. You tell PF3 that you are executing a missed approach and then fly it yourself and await instructions.
5. Yes, this is a new feature in PF3. The old PFE had discretionary holds that were never correct!
5. One of the beta testers declared an emergency on everyone of his flights!!! You can set up an a/c profile which tells PF3 what airport to suggest for landing which could also be your alternate.

Who can you possibly mean ?

Yes Clice , declare an emergency and if you have just taken off you will be asked if you can return to you departure airport. If yes you will be vectored back to it. If no, you will be vectored to the nearest suitable airport (configurable basis runway length). This emergency procedure is separate from the alternate airport (optional during setting up flightplan)

Clive,

For 1 - I would actually say no. While PF3 will read flightplans created using waypoints obtained from Airac data, the actual program itself has no link to that data.

The main thing to take away is that PF3 very much relies on you (the pilot) to do a lot of the work. If you want real-world SIDS/STARS, you can have them as long you're willing to manually enter the necessary waypoints of the procedure in your flightplan and manually tell PF3 what the name of the procedure is... PF3 cannot assign any terminal procedure on its own. I haven't tried them myself yet, but I think holds are the same way. PF3 will only assign holds at a pre-designated waypoint that you select beforehand.

Some would argue that all of this manual intervention is realistic - I don't share that view point. Nonetheless, PF3 has plenty of strong points too.

Thought that was the case, so what if you do not has the charts? Just seems like a lot of work to get from A > B realistically.

So, you set all this up, then due to weather the arrival changes, eg at LEPA, you go from 06 to 24, how does it cope with that.

Just in case I have this wrong.

1, you want to go from LFML > LEPA, I need to look at the correct charts and input EVERY Altitude and speed restrictions on the SID and STAR

Right done that, and off I go. Get ATIS for LEPA on route and find that we're now on 24s for landing instead of 06s when I left.

Now what, I think is the question

I know we might not be ICAO correct, currently I might add but we are getting there ;)

I'm trying to get my head around the SID and STAR entry currently, perhaps someone will jump in and explain what I'm missing on this.

What about NATS........please tell me you haven't got to input them one by one :?

Not everyone is a 'real' pilot so it would be difficult possible for some users to fully understand the processes

You could always hit Hotkey #1, you'll get cleared to finals at pilot's discretion and then you can fly whatever procedure you want... couldn't be simpler really

WHY all the questions Clive? :D

WHY are you so concerned with what PF3 does or doesn't do? :D

Please don't come onto my forum and post 'surely you don't have to do this' and 'surely you don't have to do that' because I personally don't find it very professional! Have I ever posted on your forum? In fact I think I've only posted on the AVSIM FS forums once in the past several years for that very same reason.
