Post subject:  Rebuilding PFE database for P3D?

Trying to connect PFE Deluxe with Prepar3D v2.5, I get the error message:"This version of PFE supports full taxi guidance but you need to rebuild the PFE database first to activate this new feature to use in FSX!"

Rebuilding the database using the MakeRwys file, everything seems to go OK until the final step when I need to select the Runways.csv file. When I select it (it's in the /Prepar3D folder), I get the error message: "Can't find the FS9 or FSX installation folder!".

Any advice on next steps? Thanks in advance!

Sorry, I don't know anything about P3D. Hopefully someone that uses it may chip in with some advice.

I've tried everything I know of to try and rebuild the database. As of right now, there is no way to do it. I even reinstalled FSX to use that. I moved the runways.csv file that I compiled in P3D and copied it over to FSX. PFE came back with an error message. err:53 file not found. Erl:2030.

I'm TRYING to look into P3D issues as I write, but at the moment I am unable to install P3D on a Win 7 system. I have tried numerous times with all different configs, to no avail, it simply won't install.

I have raised the problem on the P3D official forum, as there is no other way they will accept problem reports, but as far as I can see it is only monitored by a moderator. I have supplied enough information, using their own install logs, to point them in the right direction, but until the install script developer gets to see the posts I guess we're at a standstill.

Rest assured, when I have some P3D news I will announce it at the top of this forum

Dave,
Thanks for taking the time to look into this. I don't know why you would have a difficult time installing on Windows 7. I have P3Dv3 on a W7 system.

Seems like I'm not the only one. Someone else reported having exactly the same problem with a clean win7 machine. I think now they've escalated the problem and we're told we should get an answer by tomorrow pm.

Still no further forward with the P3D installation issues I'm having. If you wish to follow the progress, here's the link:-

Okay guys, here's what you need to do.

Create a dummy file in the main P3D folder, using Notepad, and name it FSX.EXE. The content of the file is unimportant but the name is critical for this to work.

That's it.

Now just run the PFE DB Rebuild as normal, selecting the RUNWAYS.CSV file from the main P3D folder when prompted to do so for FS9/FSX.

PFE will create the database files in its PFE\Data folder as FSX files. If you also use PFE with FSX you would need to rebuild the database for FSX when using that sim.

So for now, PFE will work with P3D but it will think it's FSX

I hope to be providing full P2D support going forward.

Please let me know how you get on

Hi Dave,
I tried the method of creating the dummy FSX.EXE file but it still didn't work. I happen to have FSX still on my computer so I copied the FSX.EXE app from that directory and it worked. I don't know why the dummy file didn't work. Thanks for your efforts.

It must have been the actual filename. Perhaps you have 'Hide known file extensions' set on and Notepad will try to write a TXT file, so your actual file would have been FSX.EXE.TXT

Dummy file certainly works for me.

Anyway, pleased it's working for you.

Thanks for letting me know
