Post subject:  No sound from PFE when using Tower Observer in FSX

I am having a bit of fun observing aircraft traffic in FSX as a tower observer. The following link gives details of how this setup in FSX:

http://www.microsoft.com/Products/Games ... ingIn.aspx

This is I admit a little unusual, since it effectively means that the tower becomes the loaded flight and hence is not going anywhere!

Rather than using the default ATC in FSX, I have been trying to use PFE to listen to communications between ATC and the AI aircraft.

It would appear that PFE recognizes the frequencies set as correct frequencies (particularly the tower), but I am hearing no communications whatsoever when tuned to the tower.

I have debug set as 5 in the options, as recommended and 'Use PFE's AI Traffic base ATC chatter' is also selected.

Do you have any advice for how I can hear the communications with AI aircraft (it does work well with the default ATC but I prefer the professional touch that PFE offers both in terms of the instructions given and the accurate use of accents for different airlines)?

Are you loading a flight in PFE?

Are you able to contact ATC?

Yes, I am loading a flight (but only fictional, of course since the loaded flight is effectively the control tower). I am also following the prescribed technique of creating an ADV file and loading that prior to connecting to FS.

I am having limited success contacting ATC but only as far as gaining clearance and being handed over to ground control.

It would be nice if I could listen to the tower transmissions, since it is primarily a tower control area that is being used.

And when you tune PFE to Tower you hear nothing? If that's the case I can only assume the setup you're using redirects the AI differently than it usually does in a way that FSUIPC can't detect it.... I don't really know, sorry

Finally had some success. It would appear that I may not have setup the network settings properly in Multiplayer when creating the tower 'flight'.

I am also running PFE as a client on a different PC to FS using WideFS, but the use of PFE by such means may be coincidental rather than a definite resolution to the communications problem.

One thing, however, although it must be understood that I only communicate with PFE as a 'virtual' aircraft whjch is going nowhere up to contact with ground, I cannot hear any communications with departure/approach. I can hear transmissions from ATIS, clearance, ground and tower, but when I select the departure frequency for a departing AI aircraft, nothing is heard. Any thoughts on this please?

If my memory serves me right I don't think you will hear anything from Departure if you're still on the ground as that was probably one of the triggers
