Post subject:  PFE Ground and AI and VFR flights

Hello,

1) I am interested in purchasing PFE. I saw in a post from 2011 that PFE can't see AI on the ground. Has this been updated? How big an issue is this?

2) I also heard that for PFE to work, you have to file a flight plan. Sometimes I fly VFR without making an electronic flight plan. Will PFE provide ATC services comparable to the default ATC without a complicated setup?

3) Does PFE handle emergencies?

Thank you,

Erik

1. PFE can SEE AI on the ground but it does not control it, other than freezing traffic during takeoff and landing if it looks like there might be a conflict

2. PFE supports VFR but you still need a flight plan

3. Yes, you will be directed to the nearest suitable airport

Okay great. Sounds fine.

I use ActiveSky Next. I read that PFE checks for what runway AI is taking off and landing, and that it should work with ASN. PFE will work with ActiveSky Next and MyTraffic X right?

Reading your reply again, I'm wondering... So on the ground there is less radio communication about taxing and taking off because PFE does not control the AI on the ground? How does it work? How are other planes getting clearance to takeoff and land and announcing taxi/takeoff?

Thank you,

Erik

PFE sees the AI planes on the ground and reacts by giving them e.g. take-off clearance when it sees that they are taking off. This means that there is a short delay in the radio message, but otherwise it is as realistic as it can be in this setup.

Yes, as ThomasAH mention, PFE 'reacts' to AI movement and all AI is ALWAYS controlled by FS. To my knowledge there are NO ATC programs that control AI, that is all done by the FS AI engine. Even the traffic programs available do not actually control AI aircraft, they simply create flight plan which FS uses.

Okay I'm sure it will be a large improvement over regular FS overall. Thanks again,

Erik

Sure, a GPS jammer. Sounds like that's the best choice. Nice first post.

Previous poster deleted due to breaching Forum rules about advertising products that are not related to PFE.

Radio equipment for signal Jamming will not be promoted here thanks for your understanding.

I didn't even want to click his link. I came to this site for PFE support, the only ATC addon I've been interested in purchasing. That post seemed to look like some kind of joke anyway.
