If I am given No speed restrictions on Ascent is this for the whole flight or just till I am handed over or pass FL100. Also on decent I am often told to reduce speed to 270kts and then told to descend below FL100. Do I use my initiative and reduce speed to 250kts below FL100 or am I cleared for 270kts down to instructed altitude. Thanks for the advice any may give.

Above FL100 you may increase your speed to cruise speed. Below FL100 you are restricted to a max of 250knts unless told otherwise by ATC i.e. 'No speed restriction'
