When I'm given hold instructions, do I go into the hold immediately, or wait until I reach the VOR mentioned in the instructions? On a recent flight I had 68 miles to go to the CXR VOR and was told to "hold east on the 95 radial inbound to Charlie X-Ray Romeo..." There was no distance given, like "50 miles dme Charlie X-Ray Romeo". If I'm supposed to enter the hold immediately, that's fine with me...I just want to know if I'm interpreting the instructions correctly.

I'm reactivating this thread because the hold function has never seemed to work correctly. I'm currently using v2.15.0, FS9, Win 7.

At first it was usually the problem described above...being given hold instructions way to far from the holding point, and then being cleared to the holding point without ever having entered the hold pattern. Then for a while I was being told to hold at points close to the departure airport rather than the arrival airport. Again, I would never actually get to enter the hold. Now I'm back to hold points near the destination airport, which is good, but one or both of two problems always crops up.

1. I still don't to enter the hold pattern. I think I did once. All the other times I'm cleared to proceed before reaching the hold point.

2. This one started happening recently. I'll be cleared to, say, FL220, then at some point later given hold instructions and told to descend to FL260. I stay at whatever my current flight level is instead of climbing back to FL260. From thereon in I keep getting told to descend to FL260, but the pilot will acknowledge a lower altitude and I'll descend. Descent instructions for the rest of the approach are screwed, and I'm usually left at way too high an altitude for the intercept.

I think both time problem #2 happened I was flying a STAR. I'm sure I was today but not sure about the last time.

Which is the log file you need? I looked in the log files folder but couldn't seem to find any that went as far as into the flight as when I got the hold instructions. Possibly because the sim crashed anyway. This was probably not PFE's fault...I run a bunch of other FS add ons along with it.

Thanks as usual for your assistance. Except for this minor problem PFE has been working just fine and is my ATC of choice.

The debug_monitor log file is the one I need, but if you've done another flight since the problem then send me the OLD debug file. If you've done more than one flight since the problem it will be overwritten and you'll need to re-create it.
