Post subject:  Trouble installing PFE

Hello guys...

So I've bought a new computer and I've been trying for hours to install PFE..it has worked on the other computer just fine and I had it running under FS9..now I want to run it with FSX...When I install PFE and try to run it I get an error message..

" Startup Failed 'Main' with Error 339- component 'MSWINSCK.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid at 260 "

Please help...I love using PFE and now that I finally can play FSX on full graphics and use PMDG's 737NGX I'm dying to fly!
Oh just to add a little thing..I read the post that you said not to install into the C:ProgramFiles folder..where do I install it then? I've tried installing it somewhere else and the same message came up..

Few things about my computer..I have an AlienWare M14X..Win7 OS..

Thank you!
I know you guys will be able to help because you've helped me in the past..
Best Regards, Jason

You can install anywhere but not in C:\Program Files.

Also have you downloaded and installed the cumulative package and did you install with all security turned off.

Just a reminder that PFE once downloaded doesn't have to be connected to the internet once you have all files to hand.

Also run a registry cleaner/checker to repair any errors.

Also delete any folders or files from your previous install of PFE that went awry, that way you shouldn't have any issues when reinstalling....

Hope this helps..

Hey Dave,

First off let me thank you for the fast reply..never had a problem with you guys helping out..always nice and fast and full of help...

So I've installed PFE into My Documents folder and not in the C:Programs folder..next I installed the expansion pack and after that I've installed the free update that you guys have here on the FORUM..the error message went away but PFE does not wanna open..it wants to start but doesn't complete...So I'm still a bit lost..

Thanx again for the fast reply...

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=13

This why you may not be able to open it...

You may need to uninstall and re-install,replacing the .exe with this one, backup and install expansion pack and update, again backup the pfe.exe when complete..

Hey Dave,

Unfortunately that didn't work either :-(..I did what the directions said and the same thing happens. The two little windows pop up from the beginning and then nothing else happens..I don't know anymore..I hope I can fix this because I love this program..makes flying so much more real..is it maybe because I just re-downloaded the PFE package of off Aerosoft and it's the updated version? Maybe I should try re-downloading it..maybe the file got corrupted while downloading...If you have anymore advice please, feel free to share..

Thank you!

Okay,
Uninstall PFE,delete any remaining folders and files and re-boot your system, run registry cleaner.

Re-install PFE into C: and replace the pfe.exe with this one from forum as per previous post, remember to back it up in a safe place

Re-install voicepack and follow any instructions about rebooting system etc.

Then replace the "saved" pfe.exe back into main pfe folder.

When you have located pilots and source folders, then update using accumulative file.

Let us know how you get on..

If you decide to redownload your file(s) from aerosoft, you can disconnect from internet and disable your firewall and AV to prevent any problems, then tell you Anti Virus software to leave PFE alone by means of going into your settings and telling it to exclude say FSX,PFE before turning AV and Firewall back on...

e-mail Dave March with everything we have tried, you may want to scroll through the forum topics one last time to see if doing something or installing another file may correct the problem, otherwise what we have done should have it running.
Are you getting any messages or does it just stubbornly refuses to do anything?
Is your dt net framework upto date and all your C++ from MS..
Let us know if you are sucessful...

Hi Jason,

This is really strange!

Are you running PFE as Administrator?

Post subject:  Re: Trouble installing PFE

Hello Dave,
No I am not running it as an administrator. I actually got it to work. I downloaded that "Accumulative Update" from the forums here and it seems like it fixed it. The only thing I had to do is uninstall it because I put it in the C:Programs folder. Now I have it installed in MyDocuments folder and seems to work good. Haven't tested it in FSX yet but I will..

Seems like the only thing that I'm having issues with now is the PFE "Voice Set Expansion Pack"..it stops at 62% and on the bottom it says "Please wait... Part 2 of 3: Copying file 27 of 27" and looks like it doesn't want to push through...

Any ideas why? I move the three files into the Updates folder just like it says and nothing...

Thank you! Best regards, Jason
