Try changing the call sign you're using

Hello Dave,

thanks for the quick response.

I will try changing my callsign although I'm unsure in what way that would help; any suggestions for a new callsign lest I don't choose another 'wrong' one?

Even if that worked I still consider it a workaround. Clearly the PFE engine tries to open files that aren't there, which is either a coding bug or an erroneous install. That's why I suggested making the whole voice-files WAV folder available to us.

If you don't see the need for it then please explain how we can solve these issues. I'm not hearing (only seeing, if I pay attention) half of ATC's and this makes it almost impossible to complete even a simple AtoB flight. If you think it's unsolvable then tell me please; I spent many hours already on getting this running and want to know if it's worth more effort.

I think PFE is potentially a great project, maybe best of it's kind, but it suffers from QA problems that could be easily resolved (I think). Thanks in advance.

I changed my callsign to URSA after also installing the cumulative update manually; couldn't hurt and maybe help.

Nothing changed. Eaxactly the same error in the log. If you send me a pfac999D.wav or tell me where it is I can see where the engine stumbles next.

Marc,

There's nothing wrong with the installer but for some reason it doesn't complete on some user systems.... I have several systems here, XP, Vista, Vista 64, Win 7 and Win 7 64 and the installer works perfectly on each one. If there was a problem I would attend to it.

Have you installed the cumulative updates package from this forum?

Have you followed the advice about turning off all other programs, especially your anti virus and any other security type programs during the install (note, this is not normally necessary... only for those like yourself experiencing such problems)?

Have you followed the advice in the following thread?

Well, how do you know it doesn't finish? I see no errors and I'm sure any mishap during install could be logged.

Yes, as above.

I'm not aware of any security stuff running, unless W7 is doing something. Most background stuff has been turned off, since this is only a game machine.
I have given every .exe 'run as admin' rights and run all .cmd scripts as admin as well.

Yep. to the letter.
I ran 3 installers and the 'extra's' in that topic. The .wav I mentioned is in 4 other folders but not in the one that is to be opened.

The only thing that remains is doing a complete reinstall, but I'm not sure....

And I assume you are NOT installing into c:\program files

Hi,
pfac999D is in adv/wav/pfeflightH folder...and by the looks of it you have installed it into the default location of C:\Program Files,so you need to uninstall and reinstall using just C: and create yourself a folder called PFE or whatever you prefer..

Damn it, but thanks, that could be it. It was automatically installed in \Program Files\Aerosoft\PFE and contrary to other installers there was NO warning whatsoever that it shouldn't be there. Contrary to many other tools that, in the destination screen, warn for that when they detect W7.
I mean, should I not install anything in Program Files? On W7? O well...

About the pfac999D.wav, I know it is in several other preflight* and proflight* folders, but PFE isn't looking for it there. Of course I can copy between folders but I take it they are different files, why else put them in different folders?

I already uninstalled PFE, just wanted to fly for a bit again. Maybe coming weekend. Thanks for help thus far,

Marc..

BTW. after uninstall CCcleaner complained about several .ocx and .dll's missing from System32. I have restored most of them, dunno for sure if it was PFE but didn't do anything other serious stuff on that machine since last check.

No wonder your PC is acting strange, CCcleaner should be up in front of The Hague for crimes against humanity

:) Hehe, I don't let it do anything to the PC just use it to signal strange stuff and try to explain it myself. Like in this case, it just said there were 7 references to dll's and ocx's that weren't there anymore, right after an uninstall of PFE.
