OK, here we go. I'm just starting out with PFE, and I've never used PF2000. I read the entire PFE manual before even trying to use the program. Really. And the FAQ's too. I'm running FS9 under Windows 7 and I do not install any programs in the default programs folder. My first couple of questions on compiling a flight plan...

1. From section 16.1: "If, like me, your memory is not quite what it used to be, or perhaps you are completely new to
ProFLight, then please refer to the ProFlight 2000 user manual. If you can't find the printed manual there will be an electronic one available from the Start menu after the installation is completed."

Since I don't have PF2000 I don't have a manual. I could find one in the PFS folders or in the Start menu (I'm assuming this refers to the Windows Start menu). If I run PF2000 and click on the help button, I get a "not enough memory" error and the program closes. How do I get to the PF2000 manual? Do I really need one?

2. From section 17.5: "It is best to assign altitudes to your waypoints. When compiling the flight plan
ProFlight 2000 will give you the option to do so. Here are some guidelines which I have found work best for me"

I was able to create a flight plan in FS9, convert it to FS2000 format using PFE, and load it into PF2000. At this point I see no way to access any options for setting waypoint altitudes, tod, etc. Is this an error in the tutorial? PFE has the option for setting waypoint altitudes...is that what is being referred to?

Thanks in advance for your patience and assistance. PFE sounds great and I'm looking forward to being able to get it all working.

I went through the Creating A Basic PFE ADV Flight File and SIDs and STARs for Advanced Users tutorials. Didn't have any trouble with installing the program and creating the database, so I skipped those. Nicely done, and they made a few things more clear. The one thing I'm still a bit confused about is whether or not I have to manually set the TOD waypoint for each flight. From the section of Ray Lunning's guide titled "Important Notes":

"· Set the TOD waypoint the same as the "Previous waypoint"
· Step down your decent by select two or three waypoints before
the destination and progressively lower your altitude. This will make
for a smoother decent.
· Set your last waypoint at 4000 ft. AGL. If you don't do this you
may find yourself too low too far out."

In your tutorials you don't mention any of that. You show how to chang the cruise altitude from what PF2000 had it set at, but I didn't any mention of any of the above steps. If I don't do the above, will PFE calculate the TOD and final descent altitude for me? That's what I'm used to from Radar Contact and the horrid default atc. I do understand that at airports surrounded by high terrain I should set the altitude of my last waypoint manually to insure granite avoidance.

I hope you can understand my confusion. I'm not trying to be deliberately dense...I'm just that way naturally. ;)

Never mind...just read this...

"8.24 Step Climbs and Descents
PFE provides completely randomized stepped climbs and descents based on
your flight plan profile. This ensures no two flights, using the same
flight plan, are ever exactly the same."

I think it's time for me to just jump in and experiment.

I don't know if my memory is getting worse as I get older...
...I just can't remember how it used to be!

Hi,

The PF2000 help file is hidden in your PFE folder. On my system, the path is
Aerosoft\PFE\FS2000\PF2000\PF2000help.chm. Double-click the file directly to open it.
